  • Live on stage at Disneyland!

In 1987 George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and their wives watched the immortal Roy Orbison perform at Disneyland. That night, as Tom Petty described it: "We watched Roy give an incredible concert and kept nudging each other and saying, 'Isn't he great? He's in our band.' We were real happy that night." That band became The Traveling Wilburys (Bob Dylan had already agreed to join over the phone...).
In remembering this story and seeing wonderful photos of legends such as Louis Armstrong at the Golden Horseshoe Cafe (it's in the Disneyland Hotel display)
What great performers would like to see return to a Disneyland stage for the 50th celebration?

Y'know, Disneyland used to feature all kinds of "name" talent in The Park. And it didn't cost anything extra to see the show. Cost was included with admission. I can remember seeing several well known performers during our trips back in the 60's and 70's.

      ...David Hasselhoff.

      KIDDING! xD

Um, I'd love to see Marie Osmond make an appearance to sing "I'm Walking Right Down The Middle of Main Street U.S.A." again...one of the fond memories of watching the old 35th (i think?) anniversary special they had ages ago. Heck, why not get the rest of the Osmonds down there? They were initially discovered at Disneyland, so it only makes sense.

What great performers would I like to see return to a Disneyland stage for the 50th celebration?

Devo, The Cars (with a resurrected Benjamin Orr) or Oingo Boingo at a reconstructed Tomorrowland Terrace

The Eagles, Outlaws, or some Southern-rock band at the Golden Horseshoe

Rush, Yes, or Oasis at the Fantasyland Theater

Offspring, Third Eye Blind, or Weezer on TSI (to be watched like Fantasmic!)

U2 (sans politics) on the castle .......

Aerosmith on a big stage in the middle of Paradise Bay...there'd be plenty of room for guests and the lights of Paradise Pier!

At U2's Elevation Tour stop at the Pond Bono mentioned their visit to Disneyland, and alluded to some sort of mischief on their part. Hopefully
not the kind of banned for life variety!

Didn't DCA once host an entire summer of concerts with the choice talents of The Commodores, Bangles, Village People, Chubby Checker, and Kool & The Gang (to name a few)?

I saw the Jetts, Nia Peeples and Rick Astley one crazy summer at Disneyland.....not sure they're 50th-worthy performers though.

I remember that! My mom was so excited that Lionel Richie was going to be there. I don't think he was, though...not sure!

Yes, DCA had some sort of Harris-inspired Rockin' The Bay Music Series. If I remember, no one was allowed to call it a "concert" (or something like that). I saw The Village People. Still hot. And most people do the YMCA wrong according to them.

Speaking of hot, Rick Astley. Gotta love the redheads!

I'm way too old, I've heard and seen many "famous" groups at Disneyland! It used to be a real nice treat to experience famous groups at DL!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!
