doesn't it seem like disney hires the slowest contractors on the planet to build stuff? or put them on the retirement age work schedule? I mean... its taken this long just to build the STRUCTURE of the building.. let alone any details.. systems in the buildings... ride systems.. etc.

On the other hand, they are building one-of-a-kind buildings with significant accessibility requirements to facilitate access to the ride mechanisms, not tilt-ups.

And there are construction noise and timing issues that might not apply to more ordinary environments.

            And, of course, union rules.

True. If I am not mistaken it looks like they are about 3/4 getting finished building the new 6 story UCI Medical Center building, and I think they started building that at about the same time as TSM...

If you are talking about the Fort, They have had very little time to work on it between the extended Summer Hours and Fantasmic! nightly. Starting this Monday, Fantasmic! goes to weekends only, and after the 3rd, the park will close at 8 PM on weekdays, giving the workers a lot more time to work on the fort without interfering with guests or the entertainment CM's, which need to access the Fort area for costume changes and other things.

Darkbeer...what are the details on the new fort? Is this something the public will be able to access? I thought they were building a place for the castmembers? Not true? I haven't read too much on this yet. Great pictures! thank you!

Slowest contractors on the planet. Now there's a redundant statement.

Not at the present time, the goal is to build a new "facade" for the fort, so they can remove the current refurb fencing and making the island look better and a bit more accessable. Also for use in the Fantasmic! show.

Now, it is being built with a Phase 2 in mind, where they could open it up during the day to park guests. But that would have to come later, more than likely tied to a seconf phase for the enitre island, which just might happen in 2009, when the Wonderful World of Color premieres in DCA, and Disney shuts down Fantasmic! for some retooling and changes (rumored).

This will give Disney a major item to advertise in 2009 (WWOC), and then in 2010 another new show wih Fantasmic! 2.0.

And that makes building skin covered steel walls that much harder how? Look how long its taken to get this building under roof... Footing work, prep, etc.. I can understand. Building steel walls and roofs.. not so 'one-of-a-kind'

Not so crazy compared to construction in the center of cities like NYC, etc. Excuses IMO

                            Oh...

I thought you guys were talking about construction the the TSM building. THAT has been taking a long time.

I didn't even know they were rebuiliding the fort. I thought that they weren't going to anything back in there.

As of now the fort is going to be a facade where the inside is a break area for the island entertainment. They need something that will actually fulfill the union agreement for break conditions with the actors on the island.
