  • Star Tours Closing for 1 Year Rehab [Unconfirmed]

I've just been informed that Star Tours will be closing soon (supposedly within the next 6 months) for a one year rehab that will totally refresh the attraction. When it reopens you can expect:

    Newly Refurbished Simulators
    New Special Effects
    New 3-D HD Video Screens
    New Animatronics
A New Story Encompassing All Six Films
New Facades Around Tomorrowland Bringing a more Star Wars-ish Atmosphere to all of Tomorrowland

    Let's see what happens!

Awww, then I guess my post in the WDW forum about the 'probable' closing of Disneylands Star Tours were pretty much accurate.

Should have checked both forums Bill!!!

We'll make sure we get our rides in on "Retro Star Tours" in our coming trips.

Wow... now that is exciting news =D. I've been waiting for this one for a while.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

          'bout time.

I wish the new ride would use SOARIN technology to make speed bikes instead of reusing the airline flight simulator vehicle design.

But a new Star Tours is long overdue in any event.

As for a takeover of the rest of Tomorrowland -- it could be fun, but the Star Wars movies were supposed to take place A LONG TIME AGO in a galaxy far far away, not in the land of Tomorrow.

HOLY CRAP! I'm so excited I can't see straight

Although I think they need to keep this project from Lucas' grubby little hands. I definitely don't want to see a repeat of the prequels disappointment.

I'll wait to see before I condemn it (unlike some apparently) but a upgrade to the ride has long bee needed. I'm not so sure about the new facades and how they will affect TL in general. We'll see. My next trip is in October, and then one in December...i hope it is still open for at least one of those, if not both!

SM, Buzz, Subs, Autopia, etc....yep sounds like 'Lucasland' to me. Lets not blow this out of proportion.

Glad to hear about the rehab of the attraction, but not about making Tomorrowland more reflective of the Star Wars universe.

It's about friggin' time. Don't get me wrong...I love "Star Tours." But it been needing an overhaul for A LONG TIME. It needs something to make people want to visit it again. Each time I've gone the line has almost been non-existant (minus summer weekends).

I'm happy that they're changing the facades too. The whole thing was starting to show it's age.

                          Bold mine.

I'm actually thrilled for the new Star Tours. What I'm not pleased about is Tomorrowland becoming Star Tours Land with new Star Wars-inspired facades, etc.

Tomorrowland should be getting a sleek, shiny, futuristic self-defined re-theme. Not a Star Wars re-theme.

I don't mind the Star Wars inspired facades. It's more futuristic than what they have in there now. What we have now is a 1960s retro future look. The future of the past. And even though Star Wars took place a long time ago, it is still more advanced that we are. And they aren't going to do a straight lift either. They will Disneyize it in some way to make it work. Let's wait and see what they come up with. And remember who is in charge of things now. Baxter and Lasseter.

I think that's what it means by star wars inspired, not star wars land
