  • Great old video of NOS/Pirates opening. Times have changed...

I found these old videos on YouTube. They are probably from Disney's Wonderful World of Color in 1967. Here is the link to Part 1 and here is the link to Part 2. Gotta love those hairdo's!

I was somewhat surpised at the live action done on the Columbia during the opening festivities... probably because of all those years of sensitivity training in the 90's. (Well, that and all the LSD they forced me to take... but I digress).

It is interesting seeing how they put together this video after Walts death. It must have been hard for them to do that.

I'm pretty sure that Peter Graves is the announcer... can I get a witness?

    Have fun!

Wow, what a find. Thanks for the post. My husband and I remarked at the Columbia scene too. Try and do most of that stuff today. Much more simple times they were indeed.

Man leaving the brand new animatronic figures standing in the back of a pickup truck to advertise the new ride as they're delivered to disneyland... i dare them to do that today :P

Back then, the sets and AA's were transported in the back of trucks and brought over to Disneyland. How cool that must have been for people to see these things of great wonder traveling down the road/freeway.

Fun. I had seen most or all of this, but it was fun to see again. The hairdo of that one guy on the Columbia is too much!

The final shooting match scene would be so much more fun if you could see the bullets like they show up in this doctored film. It would also be fun for the kegs to really explode!

Man, watching this ride-through really drives it home how Disney could not have created this ride today with all of its sexist overtones. That got me to thinking, can you imagine going to a theme park where they went out of their way not to be politically correct?

This show is available on Disc 2 of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" DVD.

Yeah, that's the show that I was in with my cousin. I've mentioned it here a few times before. It was our first trip to DL.

We are in the front row of the boat that emerges up from the ride at the very end.

I am the second kid from the left, and my cousin is the brat with the glasses that is standing up (he's still a brat, by the way...).

I first saw that on Vault Disney many years ago. I taped it, and then when I was replaying it, I happened to notice my cousin. Then I realized that it was me!

Hahaha, there were so many kids in the front of that boat I thought that Disney had given out free passes to an orphanage!

Did anyone catch Leota Toombs? She was doing some makeup and wig fittings on a Pirate at 4:10. You can't see her face very good, but I recognize her hair and lips.

It's too bad they don't have these sort of programs each time a new attraction opens at Disneyland anymore.

How many famous Imagineers can you pick out?

I love how one of the "wenches" looks just like Monica Lewinsky.

There is alot of talk on this board about Walt. What would walt think, do etc. This video reminds me that no one will ever love Disneyland as much as Walt did, when he's introducing the ride at the beginning of part one you can hear the genuine excitement in his voice.

                            BTW:

"and there's the biggest bargin of them all"

                            Priceless.!

Thanks for letting me get to experience an era of Disneyland before Political Correctness.

Oh..and I miss the old transition tunnell. It was so much creepier than the stupid Davey Jones projection.

They did have a promo video for the new PotC ride showing sculptors in such.
