  • Does Anyone Know How To Contact Tony Baxter???

I was day dreaming this afternoon and I thought to myself, I wonder if I could send Tony Baxter a letter, telling him how I feel about everything in the park these days. Now don't worry, it will be a nice letter, not complaining about anything. I just want to tell him myself what a nice job he's done and you know, just ask him questions!

So yeah, does anyone have an address for him???

    I'm guessing it's through WDI???

    Thanks

Write to the park c/o Tony Baxter. Or WDI. It'll get to him eventually.

Do you think he has time to read his own mail? He is in the middle of a MAJOR overhall of Disneyland, isn't he???

If you take the time to write a letter and post it to him (real letter, not email), there is a really good chance that he will take the time to read it. You took the time to write it and mail it. Email will probably get read, just not as quickly, and it won't have quite the same impact as a letter that you sit and write out and send off with an actual signature on it.

                Dear Tony:
Loved getting Big Thunder (I remember peeking through the constuction walls).
Hated to lose The Mine Train (My favorite ride as a kid)
                Loved the new Fantasyland.
Hated to lose the Pirate Ship. (My favorite place to eat, take pictures, sit in the shade as a kid.)
Was disappointed to see the cool preview of Discovery Cove on Main Street and never see it come to light.
Was VERY disappointed in the 1998 'update' to Tomorrowland.
I hope Marc Davis holds no grudges.

I think Marc took those grudges to the grave.

Or you can wait until Comic-Con and tell him in person. He's always there. Always very approachable.

Marc Davis created the Western River Expedition. Google 'Western River Expedition Jim Hill' for a nice multi-part story on that never-made themed area for WDW's MK.
Part of that was a runaway mine ride that a young Tony Baxter turned into the BTMRR. Marc did not like that his idea was decimated, and all that came out of it was a thrill ride. Blamed Tony, because Tony said he didn't like WRE.
                            Here's one person's take:
                            http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hi...12/31/276.aspx

Marc Davis created the animatronics in the America Sings attraction. When that was removed, Tony Baxter thought it would be nice to save some of the animatronics and put them in his own new Splash Mountain attraction, as a gesture of good will (Tony wanted Marc's good graces). Marc took this more as stealing his creations instead of preserving them.
Marc died, so he's not holding any grudges anymore. He was a brilliant imagineer, but apparently not a very nice person, especially to Tony. No one's perfect. Meh.

Davis was the main creative talent behind Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion; possibly the most important of all the early Imagineers. He held a grudge because Baxter inadvertently scuttled Davis' dream project, the Western River Expedition, which was supposed to be the greatest of all Disney rides.
