    Light Magic or Light Tragic?

Ok... The Main Street Parade was the best way to end a summer day at Disneyland and belongs back on Main Street, not a Performance Corridor. It was replaced with the short lived and somewhat confusing Light Magic... What do you all think of Light Magic? Will anyone out there actually confess to loving it? Were Any of you at the AP "Dress Rehersal" Disaster? How many of you remember when the show had no narration and it really made no sense? Was Light Magic Really that Bad...? Or was it Really THAT BAD!!!

I didn't love it, but I did like the music a lot. I still think that they could have saved it by simply turning it into a real parade instead of a street show.

Too bad. They wasted a LOT of money on that one.

I never did get to see it myself, as I was still living up in WA at the time. I'd be curious to see a full video of it. I do love the music, though. I really love the theme tune from it.

I've never seen it either. Seeing how I was in GA at the time. But I too would love to see a video of the parade, to see if it was as bad as I've heard. Never heard the soundtrack either. Is there a place I could down load some of it?

I never saw it either, and I was sitting in the crowd as the show went on! Seriously, the way they had us seated, when the threee stages rolled up and the CMs had us close the gap, there was stil room to fit in one more stage. So my family and I kinda stared across the vast, empty space trying to make sense out of what was going on at the stage in front of us about 10 yards away. We never saw the show again and universally agreed that it was in no way a good replacement to the Main Street Electrical Parade.

the music was awesome ("Dream Our Dreams" written and arranged by Bruce Healey and lyricist Tom Child)!

parades that "stop" and become a "streetacular" don't work well...

streetaculars that scare the crap out of little kids, suck!

Light Magic was truly shockingly patronizing, ugly and awful.

And I have never, in decades of attending Disneyland events, seen the general public look so perplexed in watching a show - - or walk away during the performance in such great numbers. It's really was embarrassing to see on all levels...

I did not see it. I expected to though. I made special trip plans from Hawaii to DL to see it. But when I arrived, the show was gone. I do have a t-shirt of it. The shirt says 'That was then' on the back and it has a picture of the MSEP on the back. On the front, it says, 'This is now' and the Light Magic logo on the front. I wear it to the park every now and then. The CMs react in different ways to it, some surprised that the show has a fan, some react as if it were an ugly reminder of a park failure, others love the shirt.

I do remember the sign advertising Light Magic. It was hung on the Main Street RR bridge as you exit the park. It had a lot of mini lights in the sign. It was pretty neat. I don't know if they used the lighting effect in the parade, but it did give me an idea. If they retro fitted the MSEP vehicles to accommodate this lighting effect, MSEP could be updated in a fabulous way.

I was just about to comment on the sign before reading your post That's the only thing I know of Light Magic. I loved viewing the sign and I figured the parade would have been so cool too see. I guess not by the time I made it back, Mulan parade was in action. I do have an old Light Magic screen saver somewhere

The worst part about Light Tragic wasn't the show itself as much as what it did to traffic patterns in the park. From half an hour before it started until 20 minutes after it was over, you couldn't get up or down Main Street on a busy day. So they often had to open the backstage areas behind Main Street to let people leave the park. Horrid. What a terrible way to exit the park. Your last magical memory of Disneyland . . . the back side of Main Street.

The really sad part is that I actually miss this terrible show. And I'm not sure why.

I was there for the AP Preview, thought the show was a collision between 'Lord of the Dance' (very popular at the time) and music of Enya. My opinion was that it was a decent show, but just introduced at the wrong time. People would sit on the curbs all through the hub waiting for it to start, not realizing that unless you had a spot along Main St, you didn't see anything but a dark float go by. MSEP mentality. Yes, it was a crowd control nightmare; Yes, it came right after the most popular parade in DL history (MSEP), but management just let it go out with a wimper.....I have a video I shot at the AP Preview somewhere, if I can find it, I might burn a DVD of it.

So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe........

Tragic? Why yes, yes it was.

I saw it a bunch of times. I kept hoping it would get better. It never did.

We were there for the debut to the public. We were told where to sit, so we figured that we would have a good view. Wrong...the screen stopped about thirty feet away, so we couldn't view it clearly. Also, the CM's changed their minds and instead of letting us stand to watch (like they told us we could) they made us sit down for the entire time. Numb-but syndrome for sure. The music and some of the lighting effects were cool, but overall it was a disaster.

The press was everywhere for it. Large crowds that were leaving disgusted that they couldn't see it. Family members back home (Bay Area) saw it on the news (bad reviews).

I remember getting interviewed by a CM on the way out and being asked what I thought about it. I told them that I normally don't trash anything Disney, (don't want my stock to go down) but that LM was the worst thing that I ever encountered there. I also told them that it wouldn't last beyond Labor Day. I think that I was right??? I also told them to bring back the Light Parade. Now one of the few highlights at DCA...

I don't think I've seen this one. What was it about and when did it run?
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
                                        Marge: Pink.
                                        Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"
