  • Soarin' over More of California

A few scenes shot for Soarin' over California didn't make the final cut. Among them was a nice view of Blacks Beach in La Jolla sans the naked people.

I'd like to see more flights made available at the attraction, myself. So, which other parts of California lend themselves to aerial photography?

I went camping a couple of years ago to Big Sur. The view of the coastline on the cliffs was beautiful. Would be neat to see something like that.

If you ever fly down from Sacramento into John Wayne Airport, the landing patter can be quite beautiful. You actually fly out over the ocean somewhere between Santa Barbara and Ventura and go left directly above Catalina Island and then land about 10 or 15 minutes later.

The view looking down onto Catalina Island during this maneuver is very beautiful!

I'd love for it to fly above my hometown of Tustin.

Well, I'd like to see more too - but maybe they cut it down to the point of where more than one set of people could ride it in an hour...as much as I'd like to hog it all up for 30 min, I am sure there would be people (myself included) that would moan and groan over the long wait times.

FastPass, I would imagine, would have little to no effect on that length of ride. )

They can fly over Norco, as long as there is no smell-o-vision for that scene.

Haha, or Hanford, Visalia or Tulare California for that matter - ditto on the smell-o-vision!!

I don't think that's the normal traffic pattern.

Flights approach from inland and take off over the coast,

It's reversed under certain weather conditions.

I'm surprised we don't get the smoggy smell when passing through downtown LA.

What about fly overs of SeaWorld, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal and Six Flags Magic Mountain??

South Central LA.. you can have bullets fly past you as you soar over it.

Actually Mt Shasta and the lava fields up in Northern California would be good places to add.

Flying the 395 past Mt. McKinley and the alabama hills would be awesome. Same with devil's post pile and even the bristlecone pine forest. Mono lake would work too.

Mt. Shasta might be nice as well.

Fly over Chino and witness the thousands of cow butts and the smells.

That could have been during a Santa Ana Wind condition. I think that is when they reverse.

But I remember doing this, then flying inland to a bit past Disneyland and then U-ing around back into the airport.

I sent you a PM. I will check on this and let you know more.

And if Pressler was in charge of this ride, it would have included flyovers of Fashion Island, South Coast Plaza, and Rodeo Drive -- in other words locations of what he wanted to turn Disneyland into!

I think Disney's fine with the CALIFORNIA film they have now.

They need Soarin' Over The World or some other version for EPCOT and any overseas parks that will be getting this attraction. Expect to see that happen first.

Maybe even offer California or The World on either side of the building at DCA and let guests choose which one they want to go on. Some might choose both, or go on a different version each visit to mix it up.

Soarin' shots of downtown L.A. would have been nice, careening through the canyons of steel and glass.

That would be better suited for Disney's Alaska Adventure (opening 2017).
