  • 40 1/2" with shoes on

I just wanted to share how excited I am. We are going to Disneyland in 2 weeks and I just measured my son and he is just tall enough to ride Splash Mtn and BTM with me.
He wanted to ride them when we were there in July but he just wasn't tall enough and was complately bummed.
This is going to be a great trip. He has no idea we are going and he can now ride the "big boy" rides

40 inches is perfect. He can ride everything but Indiana Jones.

    DCA is another story.

We would generally recommend that parents measure out the 40 at home... then add 1/2in just to be safe! Congrats... this is one of the few times when I will say this "Buy a ride photo!". Welcome to MiceChat.

I took my matthew there yesterday for his 4th bday (turned 4 today)....he finally made the height...so he went on space, splash & big thunder...he loved everybit...did not get any pics, cause he was too short so you could not see him in them, I tried to take a few of my own as you can see below.

That is very cute! Our son is turning 2 wednesday and he is already 37.75 inches. He has qualified for Matterhorn for a while now, but I don't know that I could take him on there since it is so bumpy! Have fun exploring all the new rides with the little guy.

Re: 40 1/2" with shoes on

My little Monkey was 40 inches on his 3rd birthday! So, he should be well beyond tall enough for most of the stuff he would want to go on. Funny thing is that when his sister was a little more than 4, we had to take, um, extra measures (padsinshoes) to get her to the magic 40. She chose to not ride Splash, Big Thunder or Space and while we were disappointed, it was ok. But she wanted to do Star Tours. We walked her up, got the OK on her height and off they went. Only to come back a little too soon to find me - she chickened out. Daddy was bummed.

Cut to 5 years later and the Monkey is going to be not yet 4 on his next trip and well beyond any height requirements and weighs almost as much as she does at the age of 9 (she's a skinny twig of a thing) and daddy is all "I don't think he should ride any of those rides yet!"

So, I'm going to enjoy this thread and reading about others experiences with taking kids that might seem a bit young on the "big kid rides".
I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

                        Awinner those are great photos!!
How did he do on Space Mountain ?? That is the one I am woried about taking Matthew on.
Matterhorn he got to sit between my legs and I could hold onto him. Splash He will sit in front of me and I can hold onto him and BTM he will sit next to me where again I can hold onto him *LOL*
I know the seating in Space is different where I wouldn't be able to grab him if he was to get scared

Thisguy74 - The ride wasn't that bad for him. He just chilled between my legs on Matterhorn. He was actually more scared on Gadgets Go Coaster becuase it was to bumpy for him

TinkerMonkey - Your husband cracks me up. You would think that he wouldn't want your little girl on the rides because its to dangerous but let your son on because "its manly" *LOL*

I am so excited for you, its great when they reach that magic 40 incdh mark.

My daughter was 40 inches without shoes last spring. We finally took her on Splash and Soarin a few weeks ago. She will not be doing splash again for a while, it scared her to death. Soaring however she loved! I don't think we will try BTM or the others till she is a bit older. She is pertty brave but I will not do it tioll she says she is ready. I think she is big enough for Mulholland Madness and GRR now too, but I don't plan on those either just yet.

                            Have a great time!

Lil LL was 3 when she went on Splash, Space, and BTM for the first time. She loved them all. She went on GRR for the first time this month. She's dying to go on Indy but she has to grow a couple more inches before she's tall enough for that one.

Congrats!! I remember those days when they were just at that line.

Just be aware, just because your child is 40" at home doesn't mean they are 40" as far as Disney is concerned. We had many issues with riding say Star Tours, then going to Big Thunder and being told they were too short.

Also remember if the CM says your child is too short, don't get mad at them, it's not their fault. (Hard I know when your child is dissapointed).

Have a great time though. They may not remember their first rides on the "Big Rides", but you will.

Congrats! You are going to have so much fun! We first got our passes when my dd was 1 1/2 (she is 5 now). With each year there have been so many new things that she can do as she gets taller. She did have her special pair of "disneyland shoes" for a while that got her just past the mark! Now we are just waiting for her to be tall enough for Indy, but that will be a while!

BTW - This was kind of a fun thing for me to do - everytime my dd went on a ride for the first time, I would but a pin for that attraction and put it on our lanyard. We are trying to fill the lanyard, and it was a fun way for us to commemorate those 1st's.

Have Fun!!!!!! Take lots of pictures!!!!!

DisneyFam I am doing the same thing *LOL*. When he went on Matterhorn for the first time in July on his birthday I bought him a special Matterhorn pin. He still likes to look at it and tells me "I rode that one mom, I rode the big mountain"
