  • Trekkie Dad's Oct 12-14 Trip Report with assorted Mice Chatters and a "hidden mickey"

First the Hidden Mickey. This one was not in the book we had with us, but I spotted and photographed it.

The ears are pretty obvious, don't you think? I'm not telling you where it is just yet.

    OK on with the report.

October 12 was a day of waiting and surprises. Our first "wait" was in Santa Nella, as we arrived 15 minutes before the restaurant opened for breakfast. But the rest of the drive was pretty uneventful--even the Norwalk slowdown on the 5 didn't seem worth reporting on traffic radio. We arrived in Anaheim around 1:00 and went directly to Mimi's for lunch. The wait for a table wasn't very long.

After lunch we went to check in at our Motel. It was 2:00, and the room wouldn't be ready until 3. We elected to wait by the pool until it was ready.

So we finally got into the park about 3:30 and grabbed FPs for Space (return time 10:55), so you knew we'd be around for a while. We rode some of our favorites. (It's been a week, now, so memories are getting hazy.) Jimmie wanted to have a funnel cake, so we both had one. Apparently they are made ahead of time and reheated, because we found them disappointing.

Somehow we worked our way over to Roger Rabbit and got to wait 45 minutes in the queue. It gave us plenty of time to study it. Did you know that nearly all the "buildings" in the queue have windows and doors positioned to make them look like faces?

By the time we got out of that ride, it was dark, and we were ready for dinner. We headed for the Pizza Port, but the line was WAY out the door, so we headed for Zocalo. While we were waiting in line, who should come up behind us but Fishbulb? He had several friends with him. We sat together for dinner and went our separate ways. (But that was not the last time we saw him.)

So after dinner, we head off to do some more riding (I do remember iasw just before the fireworks), and we finally get to our FP time on Space. As we rounded the bend in the spaceport, I spotted Fishbulb sitting in the sidetracked rocket. It was too difficult to get his attention, and by the time we were loaded, his rocket had been launched two ahead of us. But we did find him, Morrigoon, and the others at the exit looking at the pictures.

Here's the one of Jimmie and me. Pretty dorky, isn't it?

That pretty much ended the day for us. More in my next post.

Re: Trekkie Dad's Oct 12-14 Trip Report with assorted Mice Chatters and a "hidden mic

Saturday morning was wet. Our only agenda for the day was to meet our son for lunch later in the day, so we took our time going in. Of course, we got FPs for Space to use later in the day, and we rode our fair share of rides in both DL and DCA. As soon as we could get in DCA, we headed for Soarin' and got in the first group. And we were done before the official opening.

So we decided to head first to Monsters Inc. and found ourselves in a line of people getting "dream" pins and lanyards. What a way to start the day. After monsters, we took in the Muppets, and of course, we had to check out the Toy Story Zoetrope in the animation building.

When our son Spencer arrived, we had lunch at Whitewater and proceeded to take Spence to attractions he had never seen, including Monsters, the aforementioned zoetrope, and Crush. He was especially amused by Crush. (Probably was the bubbles.)

In keeping with that theme, we also took him into the opera house for the 50th movie and to look at some of the artwork and models. Then we headed for Space. Here I am again, trying to look cool in my lanyard and sunglasses.

Not long after that, it was time to put our feet up, so we took a break at our motel (Jimmie power-napped). Around 7, we went back into DCA, rode Soarin' (again!), and had dinner at the Boudin Bakery. I had the vegetarian chili in a bread bowl. After dinner, we decided to call it a day. Sunday would be a long day. Spencer went back to Riverside, where he's in school, and we retired for the night.

I promise there will be more pictures. It's just that I took the bulk of them on Sunday.

Great TR! That doesn't look like a HM really (which is probably why it wasn't in the book you had);all HM's I have ever seen have the obvious signature three circles of two ears and a head arranged in a particular way, the MM icon as it were. The picture you took shows two almost circles among a pattern of other shapes. It does have a Mickey-like quality to the it, as if Mickey was starting to peek up over something but I don't see it as a hidden Mickey. That's just me though.

We love eating at that Boudin Bakery! Always something there for all of us (kids and parents and health concious, etc )

When connected, the shapes in the center form a circle that approximates the shape of Mickey's head. Being that it's a manhole cover, the design looks intentional, which would favor it being a HM. (Actually, it's a FAKE manhole cover, and the only one I've seen with that hole pattern.) Here it is again:

Re: Trekkie Dad's Oct 12-14 Trip Report with assorted Mice Chatters and a "hidden mic

Well, Sunday was really the big day for us, starting with getting to the park before it opened. Looks like we were not alone:

And the crowds started to gather behind us:

But we got in soon enough and headed straight for Space Mountain. I decided to slip on my hat just before the camera flash. Looks like it worked.

And then we did a few more rides before breakfast. And look who we found. Judimouse!

She's having a healthy breakfast, I might add. (Hey, Judi, I had the apple/granola pancakes, too!)

And after we were seated, who should come by but Matt Hamand? He and Adam were on their way to the Matterhorn. (Quiltmaker was there, too.) No pictures now, but you'll see them again later.

But we still had plenty of time to kill, before the first meet of the day. So we headed for Big Thunder

and spent some time on the Mark Twain. Here are some of the shots:

And for those of you pining for the "canoe boys." I think this was probably the first canoe of the day. Several in the back weren't paddling.

Then it was another ride or two (Jungle Cruise??) before the noon meet. That comes next.

                  The Noon Meet.

We had a good number for the noon meet. It was hard getting TheRockr to look at the camera. Here he is with Morrigoon.

Here are the trip reports from TheRockr and Morrigoon.

Does anyone recognize this dude? He kinda looks familiar.

Here's Jimmie, Judimouse, and TheRockr (again looking away). Several people (including a HM CM) admired Jimmie's shirt.

Superstacie! (with Doom BGI and TheRockr recognizable in the background.

Stacie didn't post a trip report, but she did contribute to Matt Hamand's. There are some great pictures there.

Here's Disney1978 getting rabbit ears from (uh, Dontbecheekin?). Next to her is Matt's lovely wife, Quiltmaker.

Lunch was at Pizza Port. Here are some pics:
                  The Hamands

                  Deogee's Mom and Darkbeer.

Well, that's enough of lunch. The group split up for a while. Jimmie cut me loose so she could shop and I could hang out with the single riders that were meeting at two in this location:

The Pearly Band came marching through.

But soon we were off to see MOO. Judimouse was our hostess.

MOO stands for "Marine Observation Outpost." It's a small theater that plays the Finding Nemo show without having to crawl down the ladder into a submarine (or wait two hours).

Doom BGI asks, "Where are we going now?"

It seems this group cannot get enough of iasw.

Hey, Jack, what's with the hoodie?

That reminds me--NeverNeverland has a report, too.

After iasw, we took a much needed "natural break", but when I came out, everyone had left except Judimouse. I called Matt and found everyone was headed over to DCA to "look at Candy Corn Acres. Judi decided to go home, so she cut me loose, and I hoofed it over to the entrance hoping to catch up. But somehow I managed to get there ahead of some of them.

There was a "show" (if you want to call it that) going on at Candy Corn Acres, so we lingered there a while before heading to the animation building to see the Zoetrope. There are no pictures or video that can do it justice, but here's a couple of attempts by me.

                  StitchTT6 kneeling at the altar:

OK, this isn't mine, but I found this on YouTube. It's a fairly decent video of the Zoetrope on tour in London:
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

We split into two groups. I went with the group that learned to draw Tigger. The others rode Monsters Inc. When we reunited, I was informed we were having dinner at the Plaza Inn. I called Jimmie and invited her to join us. We had barely digested lunch, so we ordered kids meals. Jimmie also got a side salad, and I got a slice of apple pie to share. Still, it was cheaper than lunch.

Looks like Matt listened to his mom when she admonished him to clean his plate. Now it appears he's cleaning everyone else's plate, too.

The Hamands split after dinner, but Jimmie and I continued with the group. As it got darker, I took very few pictures. I'll wrap it up in the next installment.

It's a shadow, but not of C3PO. If you are hinting the HM is in Star Tours, you are a long way off.

You'll have to ask Matt about the garbage yourself. Better yet, just give him your leftovers at lunch tomorrow! I'm sure he'll know what to do with them.

Well, I only have a couple pictures left to show, but we still did quite a bit after dinner. Pirates (of course), Pooh (they sent my hive through twice), some did HMH. We got in Pinocchio before it closed for fireworks, but the others closed before we could get on. Here's our little wooden friend at the exit.

Then we had a run on the Matterhorn and stood in line for Nemo. We boarded our sub just as the fireworks started, and we could see flashes of light from them during the first part of the ride.

After that, Jimmie was ready to call it a night, but I talked her into using our FPs for Space. Unfortunately, it was down, so she left, and I rejoined the group. We rode Buzz, Star Tours (should have seen Stacie), Jungle Cruise, HM (not sure what order any more) and got in a late show at the Tiki Room (lots of singing going on). It wasn't quite midnight, so we dashed over to Big Thunder, but it was already closed.

Still, we managed to fill a boat with 12 of us on Pirates just before midnight. Afterwards, we talked about how noisy it would be staying in the "dream suite" and sauntered down Main Street. Doom BGI had to buy a few DL clothing items to "represent" in WDW. That's pretty much it.

One last picture. Outside Buzz, I got a shot of Mary Ann in Wndrland's hubby attempting to juggle.

The end. (sorry, no butt shots)

                                        Good morning, son
                                        In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                                        It was pain
                                        Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
