  • Yet another DCA makeover thread: Future Dark Rides

Al's article mentions there are more dark rides in the works for DCA.
What do you think they will be based on? Classics? Pixar? Live-action?
What type of vehicle do you think that it will use or will it be a flume ride?

My first instinct would be to say that they'd be based on Pixar films, but thinking about it, they've pretty much made attractions for almost all of their films already...it would be redundant to make more.

So I would hope that some of the classics would be considered...Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, Bambi...potentially some of the Fab Five characters as well. However, I think a House of Mouse-type of attraction should go to Toontown, not necessarily DCA.

I'd like to see some classics as well. I wonder if The Three Caballeros would work and fit in with the California theme? (kind of loosely though).

Depends on your term of flume. The Shoot-the-chute flumes, or a log flume? I'd say Splash Mountain should be Disneys only log flume.

Grand Fiesta Tour in California much? Such a ride would fit if there was a Disney park in Mexico, as well as California, in a way. :P *bricked*

Now hang on to them hats n' glasses, cause this here's the wildest ride in the wilderness!

James and the Giant Peach would make an interesting dark ride.

Dark rides have been forgotten in theme parks after Disneyland. I'm glad to hear that DCA may potentially be getting more dark rides.

Resurrecting the Rocketeer as a dark ride would be a great idea since the movie took place in southern California and the new time setting of the park. However it would probably work better as a coaster on the same lines of Temple of Peril. I still can't figure out why Disney didn't turn this into a movie franchise.

Unfortunately it didn't do well financially. I don't think people understood it.

But it was and still is a fun movie. One of the best comic book movies out there.

I agree with you. I would love to see a Rocketeer attraction, or at least a face character. I had an idea a while ago that he could do meet 'n' greets in Hollywood by being dropped down on a rope from above accompanied by smoke and/or fire effects, then take off his helmet and interact with guests.

It's the perfect movie to be turned into a "stealth" style coaster where your back is parallel to the track. I had a concept floating around on these boards but I think everyone's tired of me pushing it now. Rocketeer is a great movie. When I see trailers for Iron Man, I can't help but think back at Rocketeer.

Back to the topic at hand, Little Mermaid can be considered a massive dark ride. I don't believe it will be Haunted Mansion class (but I hope it is). So what else could there be?

Toy Story Midway Mania can be classified as such.

Bug's Land I think would make for a better omnimover dark ride than Little Mermaid.

A dark ride about CARS would be redundant... especially if the cars e-ticket will have indoor and outdoor areas prominently featuring the characters.

In hollywood, how about a Muppets dark ride? Too bad Roger Rabbit was in Toon Town because that would be a perfect fit with the updated hollywood and los angeles area. Complete with red car!

grizzly peak area? Hmmm... maybe a dark ride following Donald Duck's camping experience with Humphrey Bear and the Ranger? I dunno. Just trying to think of just anything. Or I guess they wanted to bring the Country Bears back in some way too.

Maybe something ORIGINAL unrelated to movies. I think we are officially maxed out with tie-ins at this point.

I'd like to see Western River Expedition and a Zorro darkride replace A Bug's Land with a new Spanish Square area.

I'd also love to see something on the mysteries of Mt Shasta. Bigfoot, underground cities of ancient civilizations, UFO's, the wendigo. Any one of these would make for a great attraction.

I would like to see "L.A. Traffic: The Ride." The ride is supposed to be 5 minutes, but it ends up being a 2 hour journey. The ride moves at an inch per hour.

There are so many great rides that could be done that wouldn't fit in with the California theme...If we're going with things that don't fit in with California, just move Toontown to DCA and expand Fantasyland in DL. Then Toontown could have a House of Mouse attraction and a bunch more rides. But then again, it doesn't really fit in California.

This was the first idea I kept coming up with when trying to figure out how to plus DCA... A Rocketeer attraction for Condor Flats. I had it in my head for a long time for D/MGM but it would fit in DCA as well. For the longest time there wasn't a ride system that matched my idea, but when they came out with the robocoaster arm system I realized that it'd be perfect. Anyway, a Rocketeer attraction would be great and because not many people are familiar with the film it would be like a brand new concept.

Maybe they could also do the Muppet Movie Ride they originally designed for MGM.

And mark me down for someone who wants some non-franchise, original concept rides like Western River Expedition, Mansion, or Pirates.

Also, when I saw someone post in another thread that they'd like to see an area themed to San Diego / old California history and the Spanish Mission era, I realized that it would be perfect for a Zorro attraction of some sort.

The potential for San Francisco and Mission themed areas make me uncomfortable about them spending so much remaining room on Cars - since these are big-dollar developments there won't be a second chance for do-overs if they screw it up.

I was looking at DCA on Google Earth and trying to figure out how much space was really left (I'm an eastcoaster and don't know the lay of the land out there) - what's the deal with those cruddy looking apartment complexes in the SE corner of the Timon lot? Who owns those?

Anyway, I just hate that there's such limited space for future growth. It's hard to see how the park can ever build out with nearly as many attractions as Disneyland.
