  • DCA: Great Movie Ride?

I would like to see an audioanimatronic GREAT MOVIE RIDE adventure for HPB, but instead of the ride vehicles they have in Florida, what if each group of 2-4 people were in a vehicle resembling a golf cart. And you wheeled into different soundstages each time you went into a different movie scene, as if they were all shooting on the same lot at the same time. You crash through the HOT SET-DO NOT ENTER doors and you're in the middle of GONE WITH THE WIND being filmed. They could show the director and crew members working, esp. if there was a famous director or cinematographer working on the real movie who real-life Hollywood types and other film buffs would recognize. It could have a little bit of irreverancy (not like Superstar Limo though!!!) and be a little more zany and fun than the more serious presentation of Great Moments At The Movies in Florida.

OK Just an idea. Go ahead and tell me you hate it now!

    I actually like the idea.

The only concern I have with it, is: where would it go?

        Re: DCA: Great Movie Ride?

Golf cart idea is pretty cool, sticks to the California theme. Yay, another "RIDE" at Disneyland Resort!!

I am not fond of the copy cat rides from Florida to California, and vice versa. How about some original ideas?

Yeah, it could go in the Millionaire Bldg, or if they want to take out the tram to Timon lot, we can expand the back corner of DCA where Hwood&Dine is now.

As long as it was more like Great Movie Ride and nothing at all resembling Superstar Limo, it could be all different movies, it could be highlights of the various Disney decades, it could be Roger Rabbit taking you through one era, it could go in any number of directions. I prefer a semi serious approach, but the director could turn to you a la Indy's line "TOURISTS" in Indiana Jones adventure, or the way the Monster talks to you on Monsters Inc.

Have the building be like a mini Walt Disney Studios, or something?

two words for you: ride capacity

The reason the vehicles are so big in MGM is because the show scenes are long. To keep up ride counts you then need a larger vehicle.

Otherwise you'd just have something like a typical dark ride and it would be nothing like the GMR

Yeah, that's keeping with the Walt Disney emphasis AND the California angle, as well as being highly appropriate for the name of that land. You go to the Hollywood Pictures Backlot and GUESS WHAT nothing's filming. No rides based on cinema. Unlike USH or USF.

I wasn't advocating a direct clone of Great Movie Ride...

Something ON PAR with Florida's GMR. Oh and did I mention the golf carts?

Hello.... IMAGINEERING can work that out. Even if you're on a spaced-apart Omnimover system and your doombuggy just looks like a golf cart and goes twice as slow as Haunted Mansion.

But it would be more fun if the golf cart went a little out of control a la Mulholland Madness at some point along the way  kidding. Sorta. OK. Kidding.

Yes. It'll be like Great Movie Ride UNTIL SOMETHING GOES WRONG and it becomes Mulholland Madness as you flee the Studio Security and police helicopter in the final scene.

Omnimover doesn't automatically mean high capacity - its about the seats x speed. Again, the issue is the scenes are so long in the GMR. No one scene in the HM is even remotely similar in pace. The longest single scene is probably the ball room. The graveyard is multiple.

my question stands. Have you been on The Great Movie Ride?

those ride vehicles are GIANT , maybe 9 people wide , 20 rows long. They chug along at negative 1 mph , i don't see those becoming a method of "fleeing the studio security"

there is one point at the beginning of the Great Movie Ride where a gangster ( i apologize for not knowing exactly who ) jumps on the ride vehicle and says something like "quick lets get out of here"

then the monstrous vehicles slowly putt away from the scene... kinda sad really

                                  Re: DCA: Great Movie Ride?

I'd love a California version of GMR. When I visited WDW, the Great Movie Ride was one of the highlights from my trip. It's also one of the few rides where you can make the clone completely different by having different films mentioned.

As for place to put it, once the Timon Lot is used for expansion, there will be no need for the tram loading/unloading area. A new showbuilding can be built in the tram turnabout still leaving the Millionare building and Hollywood and Dine available for further expansion.
Women, they make the highs higher and the lows more frequent.

I Kinda like the Great Movie Ride. I like how it's a dark ride plus the tour guide interracts with some of the scenes.

Since a lot of people don't like the Florida version, I say ship it west and let's repurpose the AAs and do a new Great Movie Ride. Then they can put their Walt Disney story attraction in Grauman's and use the showbuilding for something else.
