  • Next Year's Halloween Overlay at DL (merged threads)

I hope I didn't mislead anyone with my thread title (I don't have inside secrets about what they have planned for next years overlay...or do I?)

But, anyways, I'm really hoping that they'll step it up for next year's halloween overlay, and I'm positive they will. When I went there, it was kind of disappointing. I had planned to see and do everything that they added for halloween...and I was done with it all in about 2 hours. Sad. I think they should have made it so that it's much more immersive. I felt like it was back to regular old Disneyland (not a bad thing, but I drove 6 hours to see something I haven't seen). I didn't do the Mickey's Treat thing, but it could have been more than just the Mansion overlay(I'm going to see it again in a month) and a few other kabob's.

I believe now that they know the amount of people this brings in, they will do a lot more next year, as I will not likeyly go with so little to offer.

Anyways, what do you think should have a halloween overlay? What Shouldn't(mansion)? And what other things Disneyland have an overlay for? Easter? Independence Day? Mardi Gras? St. Patrick's Day?

Halloween Time is not designed to be a huge event. It's just a makeover to bring in the APs and locals. It seems to work well.

You had your expectations set way too high. Who really needs more of the park to be engulfed in this Halloween stuff? Of course, Halloween Time could always be improved but I think the decorations they put up now are more than adequate.

Your statement doesn't quite add up. You say you planned to see and do
everything that was added for Halloweentime ~ but then you admit that
you didn't attend Mickey's Halloween Treat.

Just wondering what you did see at DL/DCA. You only mention
Haunted Mansion Holiday, and then you question whether or not
      THAT should be done?????

Tell us what you did in DL/DCA during your 2 Hours. I'll bet you
missed a few more things than Just Mickey's Halloween Treat,
which is a BIG part of DL/DCA's Halloweentime.

Now, I will agree that Halloweentime Needs to be extended further,
It needs more of a Parade, than just the Cavalcade during Mickey's
      Halloween Treat.

As for the rest of your questions about other holiday makeovers,
that's a completely different topic, as Crush says "Focus, dude."

I'm just wondering, if they still are doing it by then, how will Halloweentime look in the new DCA? I'm thinking Candy Corn Acres will be gone by then....

I had heard someone else mention that Candy Corn Acres
would simply be moved to the farm area near Flik's Fair.
The Candy "Corn"acopia will be around for quite a few years.

Al was the one who mentioned next year Candy Corn Acres will be in the Farm area since the Sunshine Plaza should be all tore up by then. Guess we'll have to wait and see. But as for HalloweenTime, I really thought they would do a lot more this year. Well, hopefully next year they will. They could go nuts in Frontierland, like they do over at Disneyland Paris. Maybe at least some Halloween fireworks, since I would guess that might be cheaper than doing a full parade?

Too much overlay would drown Disneyland. The way they have it now is perfect. Not too much, just enough to celebrate both Disneyland and the Halloween traditions.

Well, in DCA I saw Golden Screams, the Candy Corn Acres, and well that's it...they had two things(unless I'm missing something, but I probably saw it and forgot about it). At Disneyland I saw Big Thunder Ranch, all the pumpkins out on Mainstreet, and the pumpkins around the hub(again if I didn't mention something, I probably saw it, but don't remember it). It just didn't feel grand enough. Maybe I'm just spoiled with the Christmas overlay. But I hope they plus it.

Sorry for the messiness of my message, I was very tired, forgot what I was saying halfway through, and have been sick for the past 3 days. Usually I can convey my message a bit better.

Also, I know that a St. Patrick's Day Overlay wouldn't be possible, but I wanted to hear if anyone had some great ideas that could change my mind

Totally agree with you there. The Halloween layover IMO is really geared toward the locals. With the other non-family alternatives at Knott's and Universal, the Halloween layover at the DLR offers something the entire family can enjoy together and gets the locals -- who are mainly thinking about Halloween Haunts at other parks -- thinking about visiting Disneyland as well.

Re: Next Year's Halloween Overlay at DL

I think the level of decorations Disney puts up for Halloween is just fine. I'm sure they'll add a few things here and there over the years, but don't expect any major additions. Too much decoration would ruin the ambience.

i really hope they next year they bring a nice halloween parade and fireworks show to the resort. With half of dca going under construction this next coming years, i was thinking they could have the party at disneyland instead of dca, it could be similar to walt disney worlds mickeys not so scary halloween party.

With the continued success of Halloweentime, it can defintely be feasible for a continued expansion of themeing for the holiday. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they did, as a matter of fact Im kind of expecting it.

Re: Next Year's Halloween Overlay at DL

Big Thunder Ranch had the house with the different photo opps.
And Woody's Halloween Roundup has a few different "episodes"
for their shows. (although they appear to be what they had
last year.) Also the fantastic pumpkin carving in this area.

Frontierland added some of the skeleton figures just outside
                            Rancho de Zocalo.

Main Street has a twist on their regular entertainment. The
Dapper Dans's have Halloweentime versions of their songs ~
and they are all in black Pants with orange and white striped
shirts. Even the Band on Main Street has orange/white/black
outfits. (although I have no idea why they were playing jazz
music on Main Street, that should only be done in New Orleans
Square or on the Mark Twain.)

The Halloween Parade and Party should remain in DCA, as a part
of Mickey's Halloween Treat. DCA is actually a good place to hold
the event, because you wouldn't want to close DL early for Mickey's
                            H Treat.

There is also the Miss Pumpkin show on Main Street.

Hope you were able to see Heimlich in the bite taken out of
the gigantic candy corn in DCA. And of course the Tower of
Terror area has some decorations inside and out ~ and the
Lighting effect on ToT at night is a MUST SEE!

So those are some thing you may have missed out on.

I think that's enough decor for Halloween ~ But I do agree with
LemisFan, a Halloween Fireworks show would be a fun change,
and instead of Tinkerbell, They might just decide to let someone
                            else fly over the castle.
Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Ya can't cover pooh with honey and 'spect people ta like it.

                              Plusing Up Halloween Time 2008

Okay, Halloween Time 2007 is over, and the conversion for Christmas is well underway, so the question is "How would you plus up Halloween Time next year?"

Would you like to see the Pink Witches and the Pumpkin Men from DLP? How about a Halloween themed parade, maybe based on Haunted Mansion? Or maybe a Halloween themed Fireworks show? Or how about moving Mickey's Halloween Treat to Disneyland proper while (Walt) Disney's California Adventure is going under the bulldozer?

Post your ideas and thoughts here.
