Re: Should they enclose The Matterhorn?
The only reason to enclose it would be to add a loop.

Re: Should they enclose The Matterhorn?
Most bobsledding is done on the OUTside of mountains,
not in enclosed tracks. Matterhorn is great as it is,
with the enhancements added in '78.
Save those criticisms for California Screamin'. THAT
is the coaster that NEEDS A COMPLETE MAKEOVER!
None of that is enclosed, doesn't have near the thrill
factor as the Matterhorn, and the theme of Screamin
is the lamest of ANY Disney Coaster.Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Re: Should they enclose The Matterhorn?
Part of the ride is for the people walking by too. Hearing the people scream and the faint sound of Bigfoot really adds to the character of the area. As great as Space Mountain is you don't get to hear sounds from the ride at all. Even when you are inside you don't hear much which adds to the excitement too.
I remember as a kid being scared of the Matterhorn yet drawn to it by the screams. I'd hate to think kids nowadays would miss out on that anticipation.

Re: Should they enclose The Matterhorn?
Interesting idea, but I'm with the others...the Matterhorn benefits from being open in some areas. I like the contrast between the exterior slopes and bridges, the areas that are offer views of the outside but aren't quite "there", and the parts of the track that tunnel into the heart of the mountain. It makes the ride far more interesting. The track layouts are truly fascinating, and they were built with the intention of some areas being inside, some areas being outside, and some being somewhere between. (Yes, the original Matterhorn had a different interior, but the contrast was still intentional, I'm sure.)

Re: Should they enclose The Matterhorn?
I think the Matterhorn is pretty great just how it is. I can't think of anything I would add. Maybe get the water falls working again? It will interesting to see what the new sleds do to the ride and over all feel.Hello everyone!

Agreed. Enclose Gadget's Go Coaster. They'd have to find one hell of a big dumpster though.)

Re: Should they enclose The Matterhorn?
If only--and this is purely hypothetical, since it could never happen--Screamin' could be surrounded by a huge show building that mimics the only the very best aspects of the pier/carnival atmosphere at night. Walt hated what dirty amusement parks had become and strove to work in the opposite direction, but there's still a link there, and small bits of the magic found at Disneyland can be experienced, albeit fleetingly, in such places. Something about the glimmer of nighttime is especially magical, and I think Screamin' would be all the more fun if it swooped through a perpetual night, twinkling with heavily idealized carnival theming below. Themingwise, Screamin' would still be an ugly duckling by comparison to Disney's other coasters, but at least it would be better than it is now.
