  • How was your July 17th experience?

I have to say I applaud Disney for a celebration well done, compared to what happened on May the 5th (ie media day blitz). From the time I got to the parking lot at 7 and arrived at DD, I knew they were well prepared for the day. Lots of suits were walking around and it seemed like everyone in the disney organization was working today. The hats and maps were handed out at the entrance. The park itself did not seem overly crowded at all (especially for a summer day... not sure if they ever stopped admission to the park?), and the media presence for the 10am celebration was 10 times smaller than what it was for the 5th. The screens placed around the park were a nice touch. Didn't see any tempers flare, although I heard of a few stories.
Also I met a bunch of the micechatters and went on the micechat filled merry-go-round. Fun times! Everyone was uber-cool and hopefully I'll get to see people at future meets.
Woohoo, Happy Bday Disneyland! Hope I'm alive to see you turn 100!

    Sounds like a great day!

    Anyone out there know:
    1. Did DL close off entrance at any time?
    2. Approximately how many were in DCA lining up?
    3. Standby wait times for attractions at certain times of the day?
Just want to get a feel for the crowd.

I take it that most people are still bonked and sleeping it off.

      1) I heard they stopped admitting people during the ceremony since Main Street was so crowded, but after that they admitted everybody and I never heard of it closing again.
      2) I've heard 9-10,000
      3) For the first 1 1/2 hours almost everything was walk-ons (even DUMBO!), most people were staking out spots for the ceremony, waiting to get in the part, or waiting in the merchandise line. After the ceremony though the park got really crowded, but the lines were fairly manageable. Indy had 45 minutes, Splash 90 minutes, Space was really long obviously, and Pirates & JC were about 20 minutes. I'd say most people were just enjoying the day, plus Space is really sucking up a lot of people.

Actually I spoke with a CM at DCA and at 6:30 am there were 12,000 lined up in DCA.

First of all. . this is my first post ever on Mice chat! Hi EVERYONE!!!!

Loved the birthday celebration! From CM's in the line, lining up to get into DCA we heard that the first people to line up were a grandmother and grand daughter at 3:00 pm on Saturday. That at 4:00 am there were approx 18,000 people already in line in DCA. Over 100,000 of the special 7/17 golden ears were made for the day. The walk from DCA into DL and up Main St was awesome. It seemed like every possible DL employee was lined up,cheering everyone and having a blast. Wait times on rides was the usual summer waits. Although we rushed on over to Space Mt and only had a 10 min wait. Later that morning (11 am) the line wait time was posted at 80 mins. We decided to forgo watching the 10:00 am ceremony and hit HM and Pirates. I wish I could have stayed for the carousel ride but the boyfriend and I needed to get some sleep sometime. We returned to the park just after the Fireworks started. Main St was packed to capacity! We took the train to Fantasyland and walked through to the castle where I met up with some Micechat people and we headed over to Astroblasters with fastpasses compliments of Jonno! YAY! It was one of the best days I have had at the park. Just being able to take my first ride on Space Mt since it reopened, and all the excitement of the day. . . We really loved the birthday! *content sigh*
 We wants the red head!

I had a great day. I thought it was very well run. I think those who are disappointed maybe spend a little too much time at Disneyland. They were expecting too much I'm afraid. I found the day itself to be awe-inspiring and the events perfectly in tune to a celebration that heavily looked back to let nostalgia and a love and heart-felt loss of Walt guide the day. It felt and fit perfect to me.

I loved it. Things ran like clockwork, and we thanked CMs as much as we could for the smoothness of crowd control. I stayed until quite late, and we decided to attempt to watch the fireworks from the train station. (Bad idea, it had been converted to reserved seating for the day. Good for them to get VIPs out of the hub, but it would have been nice to know about it.) We were moved from Tomorrowland to the end of Main Street slowly, but very smoothly, because crowd control was out in force. I could hardly walk by the end of the day, but it was so much fun.

leasons were definately learned from the disaster we call 05/05/05... awesome special 50th ears, unlimited cupcakes, souvenier maps, and beautifully orchestrated crowd control along with special touches like the cheering CM's on our way down main street...

i know al stated that he felt like the media was still in charge, but as a guest i felt as if it really was OUR day at OUR land!

thanks to all the CM's and TDA peeps that made this day so special! thanks to all the micechatters who made my day so fun! thanks to walt for builiding such a beautiful place! and most importantly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DISNEYLAND!

                  It was great.

I would NOT have changed it for the world.

SorcererMikey!! Thanks for the great Carrousel riding!

Re: How was your July 17th experience?

Ours was great. We arrived at Pumbaa about 430am, walked to the ques, where the Lion King shuttle drops off. The ques never really stopped until we got to the security check in. Thru check in to a smaller holding area for 5 min. Then told to go to any open turnstyle at DCA, where we recieved our :ap:, wristbands, and maps. We were led to our holding line area, near Grizzly Falls. We waited aoubt 1.5 hrs and then our color wrists bands were called and we walked back thru the entrance of DCA, between the lines of cheering CM's, thru the barriers between DCA and DL to The Point where we were met by CM's on both sides of Main Street cheering us on  And, being the saps that we are, the tears started and continued several other times thruout the day. We tried to get to the Hub but the thousands that had solid color wrists band and were before us had pretty much filled up the hub area. But that was ok, we were 3 & 4 of the day and all by ourselves on the Carousel (I got the golden horse :yea: ). We watched the ceremony on the Small World Mall, 2 rows from the Video screen. As far and as wide as you could see were golden ears sparkling in the sun that broke thru, just as the ceremony started. My daughter was taking pic of Aurora with Art Linkletter and after she finished wished him a "happy birthday" and recieved his lovley smile. We met old friends and made new friends, got our shirts, cupcakes and had a most wonderous, filled and special day.

Re: How was your July 17th experience?

It was probably one of the best times I've ever had at Disneyland and I've been hundreds and hundreds of times, not including working there. It was absolutely perfect in my opinion. There were enough things to see and do, yet not so much that we couldn't enjoy the rest of our normal day there.
My only gripe was with the I Was There pins. There absolutely should have been more made. That was not cool of them to keep the edition size THAT low.
But otherwise it was a truly wonderful day! I even got my picture taken with a Mouseketeer! :yea: What more could you ask for? :ap:

I thought the CMs were great on the 17th. Before the 7pm parade, I saw one of the CMs literally running up and down Main Street trying to get everyone excited for the parade. All the CMs were smiley too and that just made the day even better.
