    2008: A Good Year For DCA, Not Disneyland

    2008 is right around the corner and it seems that DCA is heading on the right track with a handful of new attractions:

    Disney's California Adventure:
    New Ride: Toy Story Mania!
    New Parade: Pixar Play! Parade
    New Exhibit: DCA Preview Center
    New Upgrades: Playhouse Disney Live On Stage & Games of the Boardwalk
    Plus lots of construction for Walt Disney Plaza and Paradise Pier.

    Disneyland:
    New Upgrades: Innoventions, Disneyland Monorail
    New Miscallaneous: Disneyland Dream Suite

    MMMMM, I'm not too happy how next year is looking for Disneyland but for DCA, I couldn't be more happier.

    There's so much that could be done that could project a solid new attraction in 2008, for instance, a new 3-D film to replace HISTA or even bring back Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln with a new look, a new and "Earphone-less" experience that attracts us like it used to throughout the 60's-80's. I at least hope that this could be a year of new construction, at least hype new attractions for later years throughout 2008 such as Sleep Beauty Walk-Through, Relocated Astro Orbiter, Starcade Upper Level Replacement, New PeopleMover, New Star Tours, something new in Toontown and something to replace Big Thunder Ranch.

    We really have nothing new to look forward to this year when we go to Disneyland. I guess I am saying this because 2004-2007 were so good to us that a lot of have come to expect a lot more from Disneyland.

    I really have nothing to look forward to this year when I go to Disneyland.
    That's funny...when I go to Disneyland, I look forward to going to Disneyland. To each his own, I suppose.

      Disneyland got the Submarine Voyage back in 2007. It never should have been closed in the first place, but hey, it's back, kind of.

          Wow. Those are some mighty expectations!

          IMO, Disneyland is so great that it doesn't need a lot of annual improvements/additions in order to enjoy it for what it is. It's (arguably) the greatest theme park in the world -- what's not to look forward to when you go there??

          Well, let's see... It's a Small World will be closed for most of the year in 2008 so who knows if any upgrades will come out of that work. Star Tours may also close down at some point in '08 (which will initially suck) in order for it to be upgraded. I'm not really sure what else could be asked of a park that has filled just about every piece of usable real estate on the premises.

          Plus, with the large monetary investment going into DCA, it's not really reasonable to expect drastic (i.e. expensive) changes over at DL as well.

            They are spending $1 billion dollars to spiffy up a park that most of us here on MC complain about. Can't you just be grateful for that?

            Also, you said it yourself. They focused all kinds of attention on DL from 2004-2007. Let DCA have her turn in the spotlight. Sometimes the younger siblings need attention too.

              And Disneyland isn't getting short shrift at all... New monorails, complete overhaul of iasw, upgrades to Alice, possible upgrades to several other rides. Continuing work in Tomorrowland. And as Al said, the most recent press release of information about DCA was only the first of several. There will be releases about the work to be done in DL as well. Including the E-ticket that we know now Tony Baxter has a hand in, well at least a say in, for Tomorrowland. We know that we're approaching the end of the current sponsorship for Autopia which bodes well for changes there as well. They may not all happen this year, but you can't really say that nothing is happening at DL. Especially when her younger sister needs an Extreme Makeover: Theme Park Edition.

                Big Thunder Ranch doesn't need a replacement. The petting zoo is awesome. It does need a face lift and something functional where the BBQ used to be.

                  Honestly, I think that I am really looking forward to no MAJOR going on's at DL this upcoming year. I think DL should do a campaign of "The Year With No Walls".

                  I am very very happy about the going on's that will take place over at DCA. I am really looking forward to seeing the place change it's face.

                          The last I heard/read was that Midway Mania would be opening sometime in June 2008.

                            You can't have a major attraction built every year, it's just fiscally irresponsible.

                            We go to Dland because it's Dland. Yes new things to look forward too are nice, but I know for me I just enjoy going there because of what it is, not because I'm expecting something new and shiny in the future.

                            And since DCA is a part of the Dland Resort, I think that we should all be happy with all the exciting changes that are going to happen there in the next 5 years. We've been pissin' and moanin' about how shabby the park is. Corporate is fixing it. Let's be excited for that instead of coming up with new things to complain about!

                            Then again this is MiceChat, I shouldn't expect anything less right? :lol:

                              Wow, this just proves what I said on another post once.

                              Disney could give out gold bars to every single guest that walked through its gates for a full month and there would still be people that would come on here and complian that the brand stamp on the gold just wasn't artistic enough or that Disney had picked the "wrong month" or some other complaint. Nothing is good enough it appears.

                              I like DCA as it is to be honest. Is it perfect? No, but we always have fun when we visit it. Still, the majority on here wanted changes and some even claimed it was a "failure." So Disney put upwards of a billion dollars for changes and a super-overhaul to the second gate and what do we get? Dissappointment that Disney isn't also super plusing DL itself at the same time.

                              Oh well.

                                I hate it when I agree with statements like this. DL_CRAZE, I see you live a half hour from Disneyland. I'm going to guess you're an AP holder--not inherently a bad thing--who goes fairly often to the park--also not inherently a bad thing. Maybe you'd benefit immensely from taking a year off from Disneyland. Yes, that was a serious suggestion. There are plenty of people--a majority of people--who only go to Disneyland once every few years at the most. You could survive that way. It would increase your appreciation and longing for the park, and you wouldn't have to deal with this oh-so-horrible time in which Disneyland is allowed to just be...Disneyland. If the only thing you have to look forward to in a trip to DL is the new stuff, you need to stop going so often.
