  • THE BIRDS: Why so many crows in Disneyland's Central Plaza?

Have you guys noticed the hundreds of black crows over Disneyland's Central Plaza aka the Hub?

They're all over the place, some like to perch themselves on the Matterhorn and throw off the scale.

Where did they all come from, how come there's so many of them, and do they think Walt Disney directed THE BIRDS so they're planning revenge?

Growing up here there have always been a ton of Crows in Anaheim. I'm sure they just go where the food is.

Were you with me when I looked up and saw hundreds of them in the sky?

I think so. They were towards frontierland if I remember correctly. It was strange because I never remember tons of them there before.

          They're SoCal Select passholders.

Will someone please post pics of the blackened sky over the hub. Then play "Night on Bald Mountain" orchestrated by Leopold Stokowski, and you've got a scary Disney movie.

Are you sure that they were not headed to New Orleans Square?

Crows are native to California. You see them flying all over the place at twilight in wooded areas as the nest in high treetops overnight. They wake up again during dusk which is actually worse if you are trying to sleep and you hear hundreds of them crowing all together.

Disneyland in many places is very wooded and allows perfect places for the crows to nest in.

Also at this time of year many other birds use especially the ROA as a resting spot during their migration south. Right now you will not only see the usual mallards but also coots and wood ducks which don't stay here all year but will be here momentarily as the rest on their migration south.

Yes it was twilight, and they were all stirring in the treetops everywhere from Matterhorn to Splash Mountain.

They hang out in the trees around Jungle Cruise.

It has been that way since long before they built DCA. I remember my sister getting hit by a little bird droppings near the front gate when we were kinds. She was afraid of birds for along time after that. Of course, I though it was funny.

They are scavengers, and there is plenty to scaveng from at DL.

Besides, if you were a bird, wouldn't you want to hang out at DL??? hehe

I'd probably look into getting a job at the TIKI Room.

I remember seeing them last year around this time of year, and I commented to someone nearby. They said they come out every night, and it was dusk then too, and by the fire station.

Are they protected wildlife or are they like pigeons?

Crows are not protected or endangered. They are highly intelligent and adaptable birds that can make a living in just about any situation. They are the cockroaches of the air.

You're such a guy, Dusty. And people wonder why I like to wear hats. (Besides the fact that it helps me keep track of my head)
