  • New Years Eve

Well, now that we've got Christmas all squared away and done with, we can now all fret over New Years:

"Congratulations everybody! You are now the first guests at Disneyland in 2007 !!!"

There is something about being the very first guests of the year!

Kind of a unique milestone. I don't know if I'll repeat it, for 2008.

I did have a choice spot, last NYE, right in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Nevermind that I had to stay there from about 4:00 pm till Midnight.

What's funny is that I'm just now getting the chance to see the actual 'Fantasy In the Sky' fireworks----(someone else's video) above:

Oh, I was there all right, but after being hit in the face with endless beach balls, and totally dazed from staying there the 8 hours prior....I hadn't remembered much about the actual fireworks show.

Perhaps 'Fantasy' is not the most advanced pyrotechnics Disney has, compared with 'Remember', yet it's still more advanced than most generic (Carnival) fireworks shows elsewhere.

....and so the question is......where will YOU all be at Midnight, this Dec. 31 ????

Me? I think my days of planting myself in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle are over. Sadly. I'll miss it. Someone else can carry the torch this year.

When the clock strikes Midnight, this year.....here's where you'll probably find me. Right here:

Not a bad way of ringing in the New Year, huh?

Last time I checked my calendar, Christmas was still over a month away

It's difficult to nail down exact plans for NYE, because you don't know what's going to be blocked (roped) off, what's going to swamped, and even if you get through the gates.......will you be able to move from point A to point B ??

You know Blue Bayou has a special menu for NYE (they did last year)....there were some desserts that weren't on their regular menu, but those aren't served till after 7 pm.

I'm thinking about making reservations for 7 at Blue Bayou, and just for laughs.....seeing if I could make my way over there....assuming I even got through the gates around that time.

And, I'm not planning on staying in the Park all day, either. Been there done that. I just want to sample BB's evening dessert menu for NYE.

It'll be an interesting experiment to see if I can make it over there, at that time.

Not sure how far away you are from DL, but wouldn't you be better off going in early, then getting out by late morning, spending your time over at DCA, then going back over to DL around 6:30 and there by getting to BB? Reason being if you had been in on your pass as entering DL (vs DCA) then there is a time that they honor re-entry before they shut it all down.
I have spent MANY NYE at DLR, and have never (including last year) had a problem re-entering by 7ish.
                  Just a thought.

                    Yes, absolutely......especially as that's an early-entry day.

Yes yes yes, getting back in both with a handstamp and as a hotel guest.....hopefully......assuming the fire dept hasn't shut everything down to everybody!

As I was saying, it's not so much about getting in......as it is, once you are in.....and can't move.

You know, getting through the gates is one thing (nevermind long lines at the baggage check etc...)

But once you are there....and the railroad is shut down, and every which way is roped off, and you can't even move even if it weren't roped off.......

That's the problem with trying to make a 7:00 pm reservation...when you've got that kind of gridlock, whether you actually make it thru the gates or not.

I'll be on Ball Rd. watching the fireworks behind Disneyland, and I won't have to wait eight hours to see it.

I can't imagine going to Disneyland on New Year's unless you're a masochist. If it was a hard ticketed event that was actually limited to a manageable crowd then I'd do it.

Don't forget, you get an extra 2 hours from 12 midnight till 2 am !!!!

I wonder if the line for Nemo will have gone down by 1-2 am ???

Last year, there was still a line for the Matterhorn, right up till 2 am.

Everything else was pretty much walk-on, though, by that time.

Hotel guest means nothing when it comes to reentry. Last year on NYE, the park was closed numerous times between 3 and 7 PM to all entry. (It supposedly closed to new entry around 2pm, even to hotel guests.) Somewhere around 8 or 9, the gates closed completely until just before midnight. I know when we rode the train by about 8:45, the gates were closed and the line waiting for them to reopen was out to the California sign and it didnt reopen til almost midnight it was said.

Maybe the Monorail Entrance will be open to hotel guests. I don't really care. As I say, been there done that.....I'm just doing it as an experiment. I'd just as soon stay in the Hotel till Midnight, or try DCA for once.

I'm playing it by ear and going to be very flexible, this year. The days---the New Years Eves--- of my getting there early, and staying the full day without leaving....I'm done with that. Not willing to do that anymore !!!

If you watch the YouTube video in my very first post....it's a version of Fantasy In The Sky....but with the additional soundtrack of 'Old Lang Syne'....and some other song 'Brand New Day'---I think that's what it's called, or some such.

In the NYE Handout they call Fantasy In The Sky--- "Our biggest Pyrotechnic show of the year"

Yeah, well it might be the biggest, but it's certainly not the most high-tech. 'Remember' is far more advanced !
