  • Space Mountian line improvement idea

In my idea, i'd demolish HISTA and the present outdoor que area(the roof of HISTA). Now that there is room I'll tell you my idea on how to plus the line for Space Mountian...

you know how you have to go upstairs to reach the indoor line? and how people don't like the current sloped walkway to get there? No problem anymore with HISTA out of the way we can make a new out door line with a more easy to spot eterance. Instead of a sloped walkway or an escalator to get upstairs you'll be taken upstairs by an elevator. You heard that right, an ELEVATOR. You must be asking your self "why not just make an escalator?". The elevator would not seem to be an elevator though. It would be a Giant elevator in the style of The Haunted mansion's Streching room. You would enter thinking that you just came into Space Mountian. Inside it would be a well themed room with a giant TV screen and It turns on and tells you that you have just entered Space Mountian and that you're about to depart from from the Tomorrowland Space Port into space. There's some kind of Mission control sounding voice that says "Space Mountian ready for departure from Tommorowland Space Port" and you feel the Elevator rise making it feel like Space mountian just hovered out of Tomorrowland. after that the doors open and you continue on to the upstairs portion of the line and into the ride.

    so what did you think?

what would you do to improve Space mountians line?

        Now that I think of it there would be two big problems;
First: It would take up a lot of room.
Second:The elevator works in the Mansion because there is not much line afterwards, in this case there would still be too much line, Imagine it you are on the first part of the ride (since the elevator would be immersive) and 40 minutes later you are on the actual ride.

        Still like the idea though

          Meh.. just use the Starcade.
          Without the elevator concept.
But make the Starcade the themed queue.

not realy- i said that HISTA and all of the present outdoor que would be demolished for this idea(so it would actually take up less space) and you know how they make you wait to go to the inside portion of the que and after that it's all a walk threw. Basicly there is an outdoor line up until the pre-show(using the rest of the space from HISTA going away)

No I caught that, it's just that the space it took up could be differently utilized.

i wouldn't devote more space(pun) for a line. I don't think the queue in it's current state is a significant problem. BUT i do love the demolishing HISTA part of things...I just think the current line (while the entrance may be hard to decipher) is vary thought out and compact.

As much as I like the idea itself, you have to realize that it makes no financial sense whatsoever. Destroy an attraction (that still draws crowds, despite the opinions of some members here) and replace it with a preshow for an existing attraction? TDA would never buy it. Not in a million years. And honestly, I don't blame them. Some of you who hate HISTA so much really ought to partake in the eye-opening experience of actually sitting in for a showing and watching the audience. They're still enjoying it, most of 'em.

Good preshows are great. They add an enormous amount to an attraction. But they still must be subordinate to the attractions themselves. People--and I'm talking your average guest, not the AP holder elite--generally come to DL for the rides. Not the lines. So ultimately, an existing fairly fun C-ticket is still more useful to Disney than a very cool theoretical preshow to an existing attraction that really doesn't need any more riders.

Gah, I hate focusing on money rather than on creativity...

yeah no problem(and I agree), but if it's a good idea than what about put it in a new park where there is nothing in it's way? i'm more of an artist than a buisness man

OK everyone, here's option 2. put an escalator back in the front, and move the enterance to HISTA's replacement to the side. so it would be like this but with an enclosed theater

Definitely! It's a very cool idea, provided you don't have to wipe out something "more important" first. And believe me, I feel ya on the whole artist vs. businessman thing. I'd much rather create than decide whether green bits of paper should dictate that the creation is possible.

I have to go with the tought that the HISTA space could better utilized by creating a new attraction/just keeping HISTA in place until a new attraction can be devised. It seems like a huge waste of space to turn HISTA into a part of the SM queue. I think that the current queue for SM is fine, a little hot in the summer time, but fine.

I like the creativity in your idea, but I don't think it will would be worth doing it - unless it was used for an entriely new attraction.

Space Mountain never had a great queue, but with the makeover it went from a B- to a D. The observation window was Space Mountain queue's ONE big thematic element and they got rid of it. It created anticipation for the ride and I'm disappointed it's gone.

Restore that window and you've restored Space Mountain's queue. It's that simple.

I remember that! and the old video with the newscaster talking about the fashions of the moon. I bet a lot of people hated that video but as a kid I loved it. I still don't thik it needs to come back

I don't like the idea of a big elevator because then you lose your place in line, and that's a big thing for Space Mountain because there's a lot more waiting involved than with the Haunted Mansion.

The observation window was built with the ride. The videos were installed in 97 I think. I hated them. They were lame and tacky. The observation window was enough. It was subtle and brilliant. Now it's just a hot enclosed claustrophobic hallway.

Re: Space Mountian line improvement idea

I'd rather the space that HISTA currently occupies would be given to a new attraction instead of a current attraction's queue.

I know that Tony Baxter has plans to revamp Tomorrowland, so who knows...perhaps within the process Space Mountain could get a better queue.

I like your idea, and if it could be worked in some way during this process, I think that would be cool. What I like most about it is the establishment that you've left Earth and are now in space. There's nothing to explain that in the queue, and at the end you end up in a space station, so...

Problems (in my opinion) with the current Space Mountain queue:

                                        1) It's pretty boring on most aspects. If the outside portion of the queue is to be kept, then why do we have that huge launching pad with nothing to launch on it? I think Disney could really utilize this space creatively with some sort of space port-ish playground for the kids to entertain themselves when wait times are long.

                                        2) The outside portion has minimal shading.

                                        3) The inside queue is not only underutilized (I really don't understand why the queue procedure is the way it is, but oh well), but it's repetitive. Everything looks the same-there's nothing particularly intricate about it. It would be nice to see some more creativity here-maybe some space forecasts with this or that nebula, warnings of a meteor (and this would hold true with the current attraction), and so forth. Just install some more t.v.s in there and you're set.

The reason why the cut-outs to view the inside of the attraction are no more is to make the whole building darker. I think, in the long run, that was the better choice.
