I'm somewhat clueless on this, too. There really are a lot of different people you could potentially talking about, though. As far as Ed Grier goes, yes, I think he really does just serve as a voice and face for the park's corporate side. To my knowledge, he really doesn't do much in terms of creative or financial input. (Which is okay...I'm not trying to insult the guy. Sometimes you really do just need a figurehead.)

Ed Grier Named President of the Disneyland Resort
Ed Grier, a 25-year Disney veteran who most recently oversaw the company's operations of Tokyo Disney Resort, has been named President of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.
"Ed Grier brings an incredible depth and breadth of operations, Guest service and management experience that he has garnered over his 25 years with Disney parks around the world," said Rasulo. "Ed has the precise talent necessary to lead the Disneyland Resort into its second 50 years following the Happiest Celebration on Earth. We are pleased to welcome him back to the states - and look forward to the leadership he will provide to the park that truly started it all."
Most recently, Grier served as Executive Managing Director of Walt Disney Attractions Japan, where he oversaw the Disney operations for the two-park Tokyo Disney Resort and managed the day-to-day relationship with the Oriental Land Company, which operates the resort as a licensee. During his tenure in Japan, Grier was instrumental in the overall master planning of the Resort, leading the Disney team that was responsible for the addition of new attractions and entertainment spectaculars, as well as a new Cirque theatre and new Disney-branded hotel, both of which are expected to open in 2008. In addition, Grier implemented best practices from Disney destinations around the world for Guest service standards, and resort and financial operations.
Prior to his experience in Japan, Grier held executive positions at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort Paris in France. Grier served as general manager of Walt Disney World's Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios. In these positions, Grier oversaw park operations, led thousands of Cast Members and was responsible for the financial and operational performance of the parks.

Re: Who are these people and what do they do?

Richard W. "Dick" Cook is Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios. He is the only top Disney executive who has worked for the company since before Michael Eisner took charge in 1984. Cook holds a degree in political science from the University of Southern California (USC).

Cook began his career with Disney in 1970 as a monorail and steam locomotive amusement park ride operator at Disneyland in Anaheim and moved to the Disney Studios in Burbank in 1977 to manage pay television and non-theatrical releases. In 1980, he moved to the company's film distribution department, eventually heading both its distribution and marketing efforts. He earned a reputation there by his marketing of Disney's home video collection and hosting media-worthy movie premieres, for example securing a United States Navy aircraft carrier based in Pearl Harbor to host the debut of the film Pearl Harbor.
In 2002 Eisner named him as Peter Schneider's replacement as chairman of studios, popularly called the studio chief. Cook is in charge of developing, distributing and marketing all films, live-action or animated, released by Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures. He also oversees the Home Entertainment and Home Entertainment International divisions of Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group. He is responsible for legal and business matters relating to the studio.
Cook, described by BusinessWeek in 2003 as "the nicest guy in Disney's jungle," is known for his down-to-earth personality and his good relations with Disney's partners, including Jerry Bruckheimer.

The one posted about Ed was the same generic bio given to us when he took over. Sad about Matt... he was a real diamond in the rough. I miss how he would always randomly walk up in casual clothes and ask if he could take a trip, ask... like he really needed to ask... if he could ride. He loved just chatting with us before opening, it was just a nice change from the standard corporate types. I also credit Matt with twisting Eisner's arm to get us the guns back. (Long story not sure if even Al heard about it, involves a couple J.C. Skips, the Inn Between, and Eisner putting his foot in his mouth! His "parting gift" was to ensure that we had a variant of the old bush hats... and a buckle... made a point of telling us about the buckle.

Matt we knew, because we saw him A LOT. Ed, smiles, waves, shakes a hand, and vanishes quicker then Houdini!

Ed Grier is President of Disneyland? Wow. I didn't vote for him. I thought it was Mickey Mouse.

Is that like being Mayor of Main Street?

LOL - one of the funnier posts of all time.

For anyone wondering about ANYONE's name in corporate that they've heard before but don't really know who they are or what they do, I would recommend THIS website - it's the Tour Guide's Best Friend!
