Re-theme it to what though?? that's the hard part. Although this would never happen, i think it's a good idea. Maybe they could just close down a portion of the park at a time, and then charge half of what a regular ticket costs.

Ya, why not combine forces? Then fill in the empty space between the two parks. Considering they're not getting the revenue and people into DCA, it wouldn't hurt to combine them. Good idea, E!

Personally, I've had that fantasy myself many times. Realistically, I don't think that will ever happen. There are just too many factors as to why it won't happen with money being the number one reason.

I would settle for land by land re-do. If you can call what they have over there a "land." Paradise Pier and the Wharf area are the worst IMHO. So they should start over there. Get rid of all the carnival style rides and build some well done family style dark rides. Someone somewhere once mentioned A Little Mermaid dark ride. That would work for me.

As far as an overall theme goes, I think they could do it DL stlye, that is to say a totally different theme for each "land" could work if they blend it properly and like you said lots of tress, shrubs and landscaping is needed.

Let's hope that whoever the new CEO is in the next couple years (please not Bob Iger, please not Bob Iger) along with Ouimet, will have the good sense to start making some big changes there.

i for one, like the california theme, they just need more rides/attractions to pull people in. DCA is great for relaxing and good food/drinks, but the entertainment factor isnt there... thats is their problem.

This has been discussed elsewhere, but it seems that DCA's problems are 1) lack of "Disney" atmosphere, and 2) not enough attractions to keep people interested.

By absorbing it into original DL and carefully injecting more of that "Disney goodness" into the park, I think it would be a great place! The only people who frequent it now are AP's and other lucky people who don't have to pay full price, and truthfully, that's really all it's good for now. Imagine how great it would be to pay for 1 ticket, go ride Space Mountain, then beat it over to ToT right away. Might solve some of the AP problems that have been discussed as well.

I was thinking the same thing. The parks today are pretty much combined in some sense since we are getting DCA for 'free' anyway. I'd sure pay to get in this mega-park!

The intent for separate parks is that DCA would be successful enough to walk on its own. Maybe with a few tweaks here and there, it could be possible.

If I got my way, PP would be torn down to extend the bay area section. It simply dominates too much real estate for such a tacky "theme" that clashes with the rest of the park. Its a shame that the best we could do for one of the most beautiful parts of the state is a section of unfunctional buildings and the palace of fine arts.

I think you could save DCA AND keep the California theme

I'm not the biggest fan of themeing it to California and all but it's too late to change it, the park has been built and radicaly changing the theme would not only be expensive but it would make the park layout rather odd and would make the newere areas rather conviluted (I'll make my own post on saving DCA later once I'm finished making other promised posts)

the point of DCA was to get more TOURISTS to stay longer at the resort (it was NOT meant to be successful by itself and it was NOT meant to be a locals park)

it really wouldn't work as a extension of DIsneyland (were would you enter? the Timon lot? it would destroy the whole Mainstreet USA buildup, entering sideways would be just a bit awkword too)

Change it to Disneys America. There's only so far you can go with a California theme!

Instead of the hideous sun sculpture thingy you could have something like Independence Hall there with an animatronic show about the signing of the Declaration of Ind. Keep the Backlot for movie themed attractions. Keep the Golden State Area but change it into an Americas Natural Treasures area (thus keeping Grizzly) and expand it into the Soarin' area, keeping Soarin' there since it flys all over California (or change it to Soarin' over the USA). Build a new area that promotes Americas Transportation or an aerospace-type area, that way you could add Mission Space and maybe a Test Track type ride. Eliminate Paradise Pier and convert it into an Americas Waterways area (thus using the lake) with water based attractions or something along those lines (maybe a Mississippi Riverboat darkride attraction of some sort). Somehow work in an Americas History area with attractions and shows highlighting our past (think American Journey, Great Moments w/ Mr Lincoln etc).

When ya change it to be about ALL of America and not just one state, you have so much more to work with instead of adding attractions based on Pixar movies that have NOTHING to do with California!

The one thing I love about DCA is how it's a little more geared towards grownups... I support the idea of shutting it down for 2-3 years, dumping some money into great, more mature rides and an extended Disney atmosphere that caters to the 18-34 demographic.

C'mon guys, DCA is NOT THAT BAD!! Seriously, I would rather have that than nothing at all!!

Aside of the crappy theme, Soaren, TOT, Bug's 3D, California Screamin & GRR are all Top Notch Attractions.

The only qualm is the name & direction the Theme is taking. More appropriately, I think the place should be simply titled "Disney's Great Adventure" - all said & done, some of the latest additions (bugs land) and planned attractions (Monsters & Incredibles??) have little to do with California but a looser, more encompassing Theme could fit no matter what they build in the place.

DCA is only 4 years old and from what I hear out of WDI, park name and slight theming changes are not off the cards for the future. Additionally, there are a lot of new Rides and Attractions on the drawing board between now & 2010 which will continue to Perk things up in the place.

One of the biggest problems with DCA at the moment is that it sits directly across what is undoubtedly the best Theme Park in the World. It is a pretty darn hard act to follow for DCA but still the Park maintains being one of the most successful in Southern California & one of the best Theme Park experiences around.

Give the place a chance to grow

Disney's America has never struck me as being that much better then what we ended up with in DCA

it sounds too educational and museum styled and not enough action

the theme would be less limited but I don't think it would have as much exciting imagination to it or fix any of the real problems that DCA has
