  • News Star Tours Episode 9 Update!

Star Tours will be getting another update, in time for Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker:

The new update will add at least one scene to the ride. Riders will now go to the ocean moon, Kef Ber. This moon(and its remains)appear to be an important setting for Episode IX.

The new update will premiere on December 20th (worldwide)in time for the new movie.
Since the launch of Star Tours - The Adventures Continue, we’ve had a great time partnering with Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic to update the attraction with new and exciting destinations. Passengers who board the Starspeeder 1000

I agree, it needs more randomization. Otherwise, this makes no difference to me. I've only ever seen Eps 4, 5, 6.

I just hope they don't cut the video to appear flying over the planet instead of appearing in space and flying down to the planet like they did for the 2 most recent scenes. It's jarring compared to every other scene they ever filmed.

Not the least hard thing to bear when they go from us, these quiet friends , is that they carry away with them so many years of our own lives.

We're getting to revisit the Death Star for the first time in almost a decade? If Imagineering gives us anything close to that original trench run, I'll be getting back in line multiple times.

In the meantime, here's a recent interview with Tony Baxter on the history of Star Tours:

I haven't hit the parks since 2012, how does the movie ending effect the rest of the randomization? I'm hoping its still at least somewhat random and do these extra endings add to the random pool later down the line or do they last for a year then it goes back to the origional set?

I guess I'll know when I make my trip in the Spring/Summer. Still planning it all out right now.

I agree. Every time I go there, we get the same scenes destinations over and over again. And it's not like I'm coming there monthly or every other month. We make our annual pilgrimage once a year, so there's gotta be some sort of probability issues in play.

We are the same we go once a year and have been getting the last Jedi scenes for the last 3 trips, i think its great that they add new stuff but keep it random when you get it. Really increases the re-ride factor.

Another vote for more randomness. I miss the Original trilogy mash up where we got to join the battle of Hoth as well as the Death Star trench run.

Anyone else find it odd that its easier for them to update an old ride than a brand new state of the art smugglers run ride that is the same experience over and over. I'm really hoping they can have different missions for smugglers run one day. if not Star Tours might outlast it.

I haven't ridden Smuggler's Run yet (will next month). A new Star Tours destination is a video with set accompanying movements. A new Smuggler's Run mission is like a new video game (although response to controls is constrained) with accompanying movements. It's just a lot more complicated. For example, in ST you would only have to show an obstacle from one angle, whereas for SR you have to be prepared to show an obstacle from any angle, because the Falcon can go on different paths. That being said, "it's just data", so once the work is done to create a new mission, any ride can be randomly assigned to a mission, like ST destinations are randomly selected now.

                                    the earlier experiences were great
then they went through a period of jumping so rapidly from scene to scene... it lacked the impact for me, I didn't feel I was involved in a story the way the earlier arrangement was
it was more like, now some of this and some of this and some of this... with CP30 complaining

then there were some striking new experiences
esp the Hoth sequence, I really never heard people scream they way they did for that portion of the experience

then... we went back to having the same, or something so similar it seemed the same... for, about two years?

                                    so... I'm baffled

                                    but perhaps old fashioned

Soaring over Calif, was superior to "the world" series, the seemed to pick famous sites, some of them too familiar... and the "flying into" something becomes redundant and, contrary to the "touring" theme... we are flying into, not around, the Eiffel tower... why? how much more beautiful would it have been to see the paris at night... or, in the day time
the magnificent buildings... not just flying into the Eiffel tower?

TSM slings riders back and forth, it's a game that's a ride and more like being in a blender... why?
it means the elderly, those with back and neck problems can't ride it
more time TSM meets Indiana Jones... whip lash...

I really enjoy Disneyland but often find myself wonder what attraction I enjoy, will be updated to fit some new "concept" next

at least the new concept of not making guests wait 30-40 minutes to enter a tram has changed... that was a great new process....
                                    impressive organization!

In July, I experienced Star Tours pod racing again, once, but every other time since, it's remained the Jakku-to-Batuu run.
I had hoped some randoms had started up again, but hadn't seen them again any further.

Two weeks ago I had a randomized ride with the Wookie and underwater scenes.
