I trust Disney to take about half the precautions necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (there's no way they're enforcing the 6-foot rule of social distancing, especially when it comes to standby lines). I don't trust that asymptomatic guests will stay home just to prevent disease spread or that such guests will actually cover their mouths when coughing/sneezing.

I agree that Disney should be closed. In fact, I think the fact that it is raining pretty hard for the next week should make the decision easy for them.

If Disney chooses not to, which seems to be its course of action now, it needs to make every ride MaxPass only and give it out free of charge for the next two weeks at a minimum. You cannot have people in close quarters in line, and making every ride reservation only might be the best way to prevent that. It's unfortunate because it does limit the experience (personally I hate MaxPass), but Disney has the infrastructure for it. Just get mobile scanners into CMs hands for the rides that don't have FastPass scanners and make the switch. Take special steps of keeping rides at low capacity so people aren't stuffed in like sardines (every other row on rides that are close quarters, low capacity Haunted Mansion elevators, every two seats in between theatres). And for God's sake make wearing a mask mandatory for each guest like they're doing in Shanghai.

EDIT: I am deleting my diatribe calling the Disney company cowardly for choosing to remain open to protect the bottom line since that changed shortly after my posting. Given that WDW still remains open, however, I am concerned for attendees there, especially those staying at good-neighbor hotels or who are likely to have their once-in-a-lifetime trips disrupted.

It's gonna be pretty silly when schools are closed and people considering going to a theme park to get out of the house.

Maybe this is why they haven't sent an e-mail?

Honestly, this is good news and I am highly encouraged that they are helping to promote social distancing by doing this! Believe me, this and other measures can only help us as a nation to limit community spread. It's good to see our nation responding to this pandemic so swiftly now.

For what it is worth, their statement says they will continue to keep paying their Cast.. I certainly hope it is a comparable rate to what you were making before. If it isn't; hang in there! I'm sorry that it's happening but it appears to only be until the end of the month (for now).

My guess, based on the CA programs that I am aware of, is that the state of CA will step if to help out people who are not getting paid. My guess, based on what I know about FL, is that CM's are on their own they have their pay reduced.

I think for the guests, disney just has to take the extra steps to be safe and try to bring some joy to people instead of this fear that everyone is having.Disney is taking plenty of extra precautions at the parks. And from a selfish perspective, I've got bills to pay and groceries to buy, while the EDD does have options set up for businesses affected by this, it can take weeks to get approved, and I personally can't go that long without getting paid.
And before all of you start screaming "disney loyalist" at me. While I'm younger and healthy, I have very close friends who are a bit older than me, and friends that have respiratory issues that are majorly at risk. I'm scared for them, but they take the risk of coming to work every day, we should be able to make that choice, rather then that decision be made for us, whether we're guests or cast members.
You are not selfish for wanting to earn a living. I am glad Disney is finally closing and that it is going to continue to pay you and your fellow CMs These are the right actions to take. I think upper management foregoing bonuses or taking pay cuts to help take care of the CMs' missed paychecks is also the right call, and hopefully they make it if needed.

I am not an expert, but I would start there if your income has been reduced.

My guess is that CA will expand those programs to assist Californians until the quarantines and closures end.

I don't think workers in FL will be so lucky. Maybe we should change that. Just sayin'.

Never said it was a Democrat or Republican problem. However you wouldn't know that by looking at CNN. But my response was to Newsom's news conference. He recommends these closures, except for theme parks and casinos. I simply said he recommended to Vote yes on Prop 13 and no on 6. Thank you.
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, "‚Äč This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???
