Grand Californian Bunkbeds?

Are they big enough for 2 teenagers?

The cast member my neighbors were talking to said no, but I have read several trip reports where an adult slept in them....

And they weren't even told about 2 queen beds and a daybed option - do they still have this?

Lastly, they were asking me about Nemo - they will be there mid december and are trying to decide between nemo early entry or last thing at night - any insight?

and king side bed and sofa bed I think is a queen

I'm pretty sure our room had a queen bed for my husband and me, a full-size bunk bed and a trundle bed that pulled out. Each of my three girls had their own bed. It was great!

Yes--they're standard size beds. I know adult who have slept in them.

It may have been to "cover" themself to. If they said the bunkbeds were big enough, but in your opinion they're too small, then you'd be mad at them/front desk CM's >> getting a manager >> causing a room move >> etc...

What might be an ok size to one person could be much too small to someone else.

because they are wood and made for someone under 5' 4 the dont want it to be a safety issue for somone too tall or too heavy

2 queens and a daybed do still exist but only on standard views

Last time we stayed in a bunkbed room I remember that the bunks are a bit shorter than normal, I was able to fit in one okay(but I'm only 5'3).

Thanks! Im glad I waited to tell them - their teenagers are both boys & pretty tall for their age (i would say 5'6/5'7ish) so it sounds like this might not work.

I think the top bunk has a weight limit. 2 of my daughter's friends slept on the bunks when they were 13 (maybe 5'5" or so) and everytime one moved all night, the whole bed shook and woke the other one up. We finally all got up and played rotating beds. My daughter was the smallest, she got up on the top bunk, her next smallest friend took the bottom, I ended up on the trundle (ugh) and the 2 bigger girls got in the queen where my daughter and I had been. I'd recommend the queens and daybed.

Just got back from our stay (Nov 18-22) at GCH with our three kids.

We specifically asked for the bunk beds because of our previous stays have worked out so well, each child having their own bed. But our last visit was 2 years ago, and our now 13 year old daughter is 5'11" now. Other two are still under 5' (for now).

She was decidedly uncomfortable in the bunk bed, but was fine in the trundle bed. The beds really are designed for folks approaching adult sizes, or in the case of my daughter, exceeding them. :-)

I'd still highly recommend the bunk bed option for those with pre teens, but in our case, we're going to the pair of queens and a day bed next time, assuming there is a next time.

Side note, we've been going to Disneyland yearly since my daughter was 4, skipping just 2006. This time around, the kids were decidedly bored with Disney (ages 13/12/8), several afternoons and evenings were spent in the room, rather than go out and enjoy the parks. I could understand if they were exhausted or something, but it just seemed like they didn't care that they were at Disneyland. Which brings me to think this was our last trip with the kids.

Off topic, I know, but I feel the pain of your side note. We just don't go as a family anymore. My boys refuse to go and if I force them they sit in the room or go to the movies (so forget it) and the girls want to "see and be seen" by the pool for several hours every afternoon and meet friends in the evenings. So I've had to rethink these vacations. And if I take my Mom, she fades in the afternoon/evening, so its back to the room. Thats when having a decent view comes in handy. When people comment on how it doesn't matter to them what kind of room or what kind of view they have, I know I'm in a different life place from them.

It might be the year to year burnout or something. I travel with a large group of friends that are family (there are 10 of us total) and the oldest was 15 the last time we went (all the kids that go are siblings - no friends). He still loved it - or he was faking it for us. However, not sure if any of them wouldn't get a little bored if we did it every year.

You are right though - with a mix of ages, and/or a larger group of people, location DOES matter. That is why we always do the Grand Californian with a Downtown Disney view. We usually go at a time of year that the parks close earlier (esp. on weeknights) so every night there is always someone on the balcony. The ESPN Zone video games also provide amusement. We also don't have a heart attack when the kids want to bring their gameboys, or in the case of the oldest, their laptops.

We also definitely include the older ones in the planning of the trip - whether or not we go to Universal, where we eat dinner (the places that need reservations before we go), etc. I think they buy into it more.

Certainly wasn't burnout this time around, it had been two years since the last visit. They're just growing up and their interests are diverging.

Can't fault all of my kids for not enjoying the magic of Disneyland.
