  • Seasonal Entertainment Coming to SWGE...

It looks like Disney is listening to what Fans want. According to this new article out of the OC Registar, Disney May be looking to bring more life into STGE by putting in more seasonal offerings.

A trio of Star Wars seasonal events tied to a local Batuuan harvest festival, a delightfully bad 1970s Christmas television special and the film franchise’s unofficial May the Fourth holiday could be coming soon to the twin Galaxy’s Edge themed lands at Disneyland and Disney World.

A new Star Wars book from Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering reveals new details about the Black Spire Day, Batuaan Harvest Festival and Life Day local holidays celebrated annually in Galaxy’s Edge.

Wait? What? Disneyland and Disney World haven’t held any festivals yet in the new Star Wars lands. Easter Eggs cleverly woven into a new Batuu travel guide offer hints of what may lay ahead for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed lands.

The new “Traveler’s Guide to Batuu” from Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering serves as an in-world travel guide to the Black Spire Outpost village on the Star Wars planet of Batuu, the setting for the 14-acre lands at Disneyland in Anaheim and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

Disneyland remains closed until further notice amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney’s Hollywood Studios — home to Batuu East — reopened on July 15.

The three local Batuuan festivals in the Spring, Fall and Winter are “major annual holidays” with unique traditions, according to the “Traveler’s Guide to Batuu.”

    Black Spire Day

Black Spire Day just happens to be celebrated each year on May the Fourth as a way to commemorate the founding of the outpost.

“On this happy holiday locals decorate the outpost with pieces like colorful tarps, ribbons and flowers,” according to the “Traveler’s Guide to Batuu.” “Locals sing traditional songs, feast and tie wishes to the Trilon tree. Sometimes the evening ends in a procession through the outpost with a fireworks display.”

Disneyland has already hosted May the Fourth events — a play on “May the Force be with you.”

Disneyland brought back the Hyperspace Mountain roller coaster overlay, marched a legion of stormtroopers into Tomorrowland, rolled out Dark Side and Light Side themed food and sold Star Wars novelty collectibles to celebrate May the Fourth in 2019.

    Batuuan Harvest Festival

The Batuuan Harvest Festival celebrated each fall honors the fictional planet’s most valuable natural resource, golden lichen, or “gold dust” as the locals call it, according to the book.

“Only during this festival does crime boss Oga Garra consider allowing her valuable commodity of golden lichen to be used in special drinks and dishes,” according to the “Traveler’s Guide to Batuu.” “The outpost itself is decorated in golden hued banners streamers and locals have been known to enhance their garb with similar colors.”

Garra runs Batuu’s wretched hive of scum and villainy — Oga’s Cantina — where specialty gold dust cocktails are served during the autumnal festival.

Several planets in the Star Wars galaxy celebrate some version of a Harvest Festival or something similar to Thanksgiving.

Jar-Jar Binks and the Gungans on the Star Wars planet of Naboo give thanks to their deities on Munchen, a special day also known as the Sacred Feast or Great Feast.

The Ewoks are always looking for any excuse to throw a party on the forest moon of Endor. The teddy bear-like hunter-gatherers have a Harvest Festival and a Harvest Moon Feast.

The annual Harvest Day festival in Mos Eisley on Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine marks the year’s water harvest by the area’s moisture farmers.

Hosnian Prime, the capital of the New Republic, celebrates the beginning of Autumn with sunsail races on Equinox Day.

    Life Day

Life Day traces its roots back to the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk with an annual holiday that has been embraced across the Star Wars galaxy.

“On Batuu, locals celebrate the ideals of peace, harmony and freedom for all beings no matter how different they may appear,” according to the “Traveler’s Guide to Batuu.” “Festive decor can be seen throughout Batuu and at the close of Life Day everyone gathers around the black spire to sing songs and spread good cheer to one another.”

Most Star Wars fans are familiar with Life Day through the delightfully bad 1978 “Star Wars Holiday Special.” Chewbacca and Han Solo spent time with the Wookiee’s family during Life Day on the television show. The new “Mandalorian” series on Disney+ calls out Life Day in the opening episode.

The holiday celebrates the life-giving and life-affirming powers of the Tree of Life, according to StarWars.com. During the Life Day holiday season, Wookiees dressed in traditional red robes gather around a trimmed tree and exchange gifts with relatives.

The annual celebration is filled with fireworks, festive music and holiday treats like Wookiee-ookiees and Hoth chocolate. Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes, the alien house band from the Mos Eisley cantina in the original “Star Wars” movie, have been known to play special Life Day concerts.

Life Day would be a natural fit for Galaxy’s Edge. Black Spire Outpost is named for the petrified trees that dot the village. A young tree growing in the middle of the spaceport represents rebirth and new life.

Life day. I saw the special live on TV when I was like 5 years old. I thought it was cool, but I was 5.

But it seems like it would be fun in a theme park setting, a good way to tie in Starwars with the holidays.

Sadly we've heard this, and much more, before. I remember all of the interactivity and amazing wonderment they spoke of before the opening of SWGE. And back then they were flush with, "amazing riches". And now that they are in the worst shape financially in many years, I'll believe it when I see it.

What, no Osmond Brothers and E.J. Peaker?

If we're going in that direction, we're going to have to see if Kurt Russell is available.

So the doom buggys that end up being used to separate people on haunted mansion would have AA teenage Kurt Russell and the Osmonds in them. 👍🏼

                  great idea!

Wow, weird to see Lucas embrace the Holiday special he was so ashamed of. To be honest, I'm very excited for the seasonal offerings. I really like what they do for Cars Land every year, and how they spiffy up the whole park in general, but you know they're gonna go all in when it comes to Star Wars!!! I bet Black Spire day will be awesome!!!

Lucas isn’t involved anymore and is still dismissive of anything that came from the holiday special.

As long as we don’t have to sit through the songs from the holiday special, I think this will be a fun idea. 👍🏼

Please, I just want life day, where everyone is in character about being excited about it, but whenever gusts try and role play back, they're quickly shushed, and we all say thats just part of the tradition. Lots of winking and nudging. And good time is had for all.
