[Idea] Buzz Lightyear ride needs the different colored lights on guns like...

I read on Theme Park Insider that the re-born Bear-y Tales ride will replace the Voyage to the Iron Reef ride at Knott's.

One thing I liked about the Iron Reef shooter ride was that the different guns emitted different colored lights.
On Buzz all the lights project the same color, so it's not always easy for most guests to tell which one is theirs.
(Mine is always the one right on the target.) Disney copied Knott's log splash ride--they should copy these guns too.

I like the attraction but it is in need of a refurb. Doubt it will get it but it could really be amazing if they put some effort into it.

To my understanding, the reason why the different colored lights work is because Iron Reef and BearyTales are VR/Screen rides, so the ride is simply keeping track of the IR light given off by the light and creating the different colored affect on the screen. You can actually see this as well in Midway mania, though, I don't recall them giving different colored affects in most of the games.

Buzz on the other hand appears to use IR and laser, in which the hand unit shoots a laser or IR beam that the target recognizes. From there, either the target sends its own IR beam back to the hand unit to confirm the shot (similar to how an NES light gun works); OR perhaps each gun fires at its own frequency, and the sensor in the target recognizes each shot, which is relayed and tallied by the ride's computers and represented in your personal screen.

Though I heavily suspect that it's the former, given the design on the hand units with it's large, lense at the front, once again, similar to an NES light gun. But what this means is, because of the use of IR and laser lights, the clear representation of who shot what wouldn't be easy to accomplish; especially in places like the final battle room where there are literally a dozen cars all at once. You could give each unit a different colored laser sight, but there would be only so many colors.

Amen, the whole thing needs a tune up. Not a big change, just a new coat of paint!
