  • Theme park opening guidelines to be announced....FINALLY

    https://www.ocregister.com/2020/10/0...officials-say/

"California plans to issue reopening guidelines this week that will allow Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood and other theme parks in the state to resume operations after more than six months of coronavirus closures, according to state officials.

Reopening guidelines for California theme parks will be issued this week, according to Jesse Melgar, press secretary for Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Theme park reopening guidelines will be issued by the California Department of Public Health, according to California Health and Human Services spokesperson Rodger Butler.

“Theme park guidance is expected to come from CDPH this week,” Butler said via email. “Theme parks will be incorporated into the Blueprint for a Safer Economy similar to other sectors.”

California theme parks closed in mid-March amid the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. and remain shuttered while they await guidelines for safely reopening from the state. The parks have been left waiting on the sidelines while other segments of the economy have reopened under Newsom’s four-tier Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

A growing chorus of theme parks, city leaders, state lawmakers and industry associations have called on Newsom to reopen Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, SeaWorld San Diego, Legoland California and other amusement parks throughout the state.

Newsom said a month ago that he would announce a reopening plan for California theme parks “soon” and said two weeks ago that guidelines would be coming “very, very shortly.”

"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???

Fresh Baked had this video yesterday with some rumored guidelines from some unnamed sources. Nothing out of the ordinary minus the one that cites limiting guests to those within a 120-mile radius. As AP-holders who reside in Utah, I'm crossing my fingers that this ends up not being included. We will have to wait & see I suppose...

Hopefully just a short term thing until they figure out the crowd levels. Glad it is finally going to happen.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but we just entered Halloween season. I don't see Orange County moving to yellow anytime soon since there might be a spike this month. People are still going to have parties/gatherings regardless. It's happened for every major holiday this year. Seeing actual Halloween is on Saturday this year, there will probably be more people gathering and not being responsible.

I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, I don't have any hopes up for parks re-opening.

Regarding Halloween spikes in COVID, you can all blame me in advance. My county released it's guidelines a few days ago for the holiday and they forbid gatherings of 6 or more. But considering how much work I put into the decor this year, how much friends and I love the holiday and it being on a Saturday for the first time in forever, I'll be inviting my standard group of 8 over to play video games like every year.

Funnily enough, my county has filed gatherings of 6 or more into the "forbidden" category but they filed the actual act of trick or treating into the "not recommended" one. As if walking to literal strangers homes and asking for sweets directly from them could be considered marginally better than spending time with a handful of loved ones on a holiday weekend, hah.

...It landed on Saturday in 2015. And before that, in 1998. Before that in '92. Five years is "forever"?

It appears Disney may not like the guidelines that are about to come down. Iger quit Newsom’s advisory board and theme park association is asking Newsom to delay the guidelines and listen to them in hopes of modifying the guidelines. Doesn’t look good for Disney.

Considering 2015 is when the Force Awakens released, it certainly feels like it to me! Haha.

Edit: For anyone confused, I'm not using "forever" in the literal sense. Time is relative to everyone. Lots of folks can't be bothered to wait over an hour for an attraction because it feels like "forever". -and while that kind of wait doesn't bother me, a half decade wait for a perfectly placed holiday (especially my favorite one) is certainly more agonizing and feels more like "forever", to me.

That's the new State mandate. The 6-foot separation has been increased to 120 miles.

Iger leaving the group makes me think the guild lines will basically keep the parks closed for the rest of the year

Disney has four options stay closed, open no matter what and get fined, have tasting events like knotts or have guided tours with small groups and maybe let the groups ride some outside rides like Jungle Cruise, the train, Mark Twain, Dumbo Tea Cups, Matterhorn, Big Thunder and the Go Coaster.
                          Happy Halloween!!!

It's behind a paywall for me, but OC Register article says that the 'Theme Park Guys' have now asked Newsom NOT to announce guidelines.

They must really NOT like what's going to be proposed

Or you can wait until next year when Halloween falls on a Sunday. The fact that there’s Sunday’s gives you more chances to devote a full day of celebrating the holiday.

As to Orange County moving into the yellow phase I hope that Trump’s COVID diagnosis finally convinces the OC anti-maskers to start wearing them, thereby speeding up the process to where the park can finally open.

Governor Gavin Newsom Postponing Release of Theme Park Reopening Guidelines Due To Backlash from Disneyland and Other California Theme Parks
                                    https:///2020/10/breaking-g...a-theme-parks/

According to LA Times reporter Phil Wilson, Governor Gavin Newsom is postponing the long-awaited release of California theme park guidelines following backlash from Disneyland and other parks in the state. Officials originally said that the guidelines would be released this week. An announcement from Newsom was actually expected today.

According to Brady MacDonald of The Orange County Register, the California Attractions and Parks Association asked state officials yesterday to not finalize plans just yet—not before conferring with park operators and modifying certain protocols before officially issuing guidelines.

Mixed bag for me. Better than a weekday, for sure. But the looming Monday work day to follow prevents things for going as long as they could or feeling as festive. -and the looming school day for the kiddos means an early end to the trick or treating which is a bummer. Friday is arguably a better day with Saturday being best overall. At least with a Friday myself and other working friends can request the day off work, not have to worry about work the next day (-and can focus on bringing down decor) and the trick or treaters have the next day off too, which means all that candy doesn't go to waste.

But I'm way off topic. I saw something about Newsom stepping down from the COVID-19 council. Me thinks he must've been really upset about what he saw. -and if Disneyland didn't already feel like a locals park before, it DEFINITELY is going to start feeling like one if they enforce some kind of mile radius entry rule.

I didn't think it would be from backlash, but from the state being lackadaisical.
