The story I read was that one of the producer's asked his wife to watch "Darby O'Gill" and see if Sean was sexy. He didn't see it. She gave him the greenlight and he was cast. I've shown that movie for years to my middle school students for years and it holds up well. They totally get the love triangle--always a fiction staple--and they love the leprechauns.
Thanks for the correction. I was totally going off of the top of my head. Sir Sean did a sit down interview on the film for its DVD release so I should give that another viewing soon.

Although Sean Connery is best known as "Bond. James Bond" I always been most fond of him in the movie "The Hill" (1965). I believe that was some of his best acting.

Rest in peace, Sean. Thank you for the enjoyable movies. One of the last icons.
