  • Blue Bayou - Advice Needed

I've scanned all the threads and know where I need to call to make a reserve because I am taking my friend to the BB for dinner when I visit in October as a thank you for the loan of the couch to crash on. I'm assuming dinner for two will run me somewhere around $100 (inlcuding drinks, tip and dessert)??

He's been there many times, but as a first time visit (and a Libra) how am I going to decide on the menu? Call me a heretic, but the Monte Cristo does not appeal.

So for a one time, bang up dinner I will never forget, can any of the regulars come up with a menu selection for me that will knock my socks off?

I love seafood, so that is a good place to start (calamari I presume), what next?

I'm hungry thinking about it and happy it's only about 2.5 months away! This may be my birthday gift to myself (since Club 33 is a no chance for me!)

Or should we eat somewhere at DCA?

$100 is high, since they don't serve alcohol. Entrees for dinner are about $20-25, salads/apps are less than $10 and dessert is about $5. Plus AP discount is applied. You're probably looking at $80.

The Monte Cristo is only served at lunch.

I love seafood too and my first visit to BB I had the crab cakes. But I was not at all impressed with them. The wife of a wonderful micechatter has told me that sometimes they are good and sometimes not. The calamari is fabulous as is the sauce they give you to dip it in. So that is a good route to go.

I had the prime rib this last Sunday and was quite pleased with it. I had it cooked medium rare and it was very good. Others in my group had pasta dishes and seemed quite pleased with it. One had clam chowder and said it had a little kick to it. Anyway. Prime rib was good......

My friend had the pork, and it looked and smelled delicious. I like the clam chowder, which is a cheap alternative.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

          Thanks Disneykat!

Hmm, I am always a sucker and judge a place on their crab cakes, perhaps I will avoid them here! Prime Rib may be an option!

Hey, I know I'm an idiot, is the BB menu online somewhere?

Hi Morrigoon! Thanks! The other white meat may be an option if the seafood does not work out! I love a good clam chowder and if it has a spice kick, so much the better!

You should check the hours for October. Dinner may be earlier than you think.

Try www.dlresortinfo.com They're usually really good about keeping it up to date, too.

The last time my wife and I went, we both had prime rib, and with drinks and a hefty tip, it didn't run me much more than $80. (Melmel, I wish I'd been able to give you the tip instead of Travis!)

Nothing beats the Blue Bayou for atmosphere! The food is, however, it can be VERY spotty. I've had both good meals and so so meals there. (Keep in mind that I am a pretty worldly foodie.)

                      I have always loved the
                      Andouille Sausage-Stuffed Mushroom Appetizer

For entres, Creole Salmon Fillet has usually been good.

I have had more overcooked meat at the BB than anywhere else at the DLR. But, it isn't always the case - and the atmosphere is the best anywhere.

My own choice for an incredible meal is usually Napa Rose at the Grand Cal. I have NEVER been disappointed there. It is more expensive than the BB by far - expecially if you order wine. But, MAN does it make this foodie happy. However, you don't have the BB atmosphere.

I have also been happy with the Golden Vine at DCA. I always forget about it as an option, but have enjoyed several meals there and, if you time it right, you have a great view of the Electrical Parade.

From my one experience (and it is in NO WAY statistically determinate. It is a one shot deal) having their pork...it came a bit too dry. Everything else I have had (I have not had their crab cakes) has been excellent.
