  • [Idea] Blue sky for disneyland resort limited operations

I was thinking with California's restrictions finally being loosened, What would you dream up for Disneyland's limited return to service? My thoughts are below.

I think that Disneyland Park needs to open with "limited time experiences", ie Plaza Inn (as table service with Castle View Dining) Rancho de Zocalo (as table service) River belle (expand seating along the river) French Market/Cafe Orleans (haunted mansion themed table service in french market/Magnolia Park area) then DCA could open Trattoria and Lamplight, even Flo's (plus it up as a table service with car hops) in addition to the other offerings. The DL Resort has options I hope they pull the trigger this time!

I'm hesitant on the idea of reopening the parks with no rides. Reopening Buena Vista Street and Main Street early are ok in my book. The entrances have operated seperate from the parks before (opening before the parks or closing an 30 mins to an hour after park closing). But having the entire parks reopened with no rides closed, just seems....off.

I could see it enticing the locals back, but as an
out-of-state traveler, I would wait until the rides reopen.

As a local, I would love for Disneyland to open up to guests for everything but rides/shows. For a while the fact that Disney hadn't yet done so was baffling to me. Once they canceled the AP program though, that connected the dots for and made everything crystal clear. We won't get more than BVS and some periphery until the parks are ready to start charging admission.

I understand what you're saying, but Knott's did open without rides and it was a smash!
Took mom to Disneyland for the first time in over 20 years this week! Woo!

Opening up large parts of the park could be a logistical & security nightmare, unless perhaps they closed areas other than MS well before dark. When we were escorted out by our C33 host hours after park closing it was pretty fun to find little 'hidey holes' in AL one could theoretically dash into. Probably not so much in FL and TL or the other Lands. I think they'd have to have a LOT of security roaming around in the 'outer lands' if more than the MS area was opened.

Main St and a 'plussed' dining experience at Plaza Inn sounds like a good idea and there's plenty of outdoor seating if indoor dining isn't permitted. What I'd LOVE is for them to be able to open the Tiki Room patio with the 'pre-show tikis' for an 'exclusive' seated dining experience then afterwards see the Tiki Room show (masks and SD of course). But you probably couldn't squeeze more than 5 tables of 4 into the patio, if that. Maybe use the Tropical Hideaway. I'd hate to think what Disney would charge for that, not to mention that opening the Tiki Room would probably be a no go.

I know there used to be a full kitchen in the Tahitian Terrace days and probably the Aladdin's Oasis days. Not sure if there's a full kitchen there anymore though.

I think that in the perception of the general public, opening Disneyland without the rides would be detrimental to the brand. The publicity would emphasize that the world-famous icons of the brand experience were shuttered, and Disneyland would be seen as being downgraded to a shopping-and-eating mall. Any amount of money, no matter how small, that Disney charged to enter would be seen by the general public as a greed-grab.

It amazes me as well that disney has not done this. Opening as a public space with outdoor dining would allow some income and some employment opporunity. Of course they would make a fraction of potential but income is income. I wondered if CA will not allow a theme park to be considered something else since they are officially permitted as a theme park, thus not allowing this to happen, but with the opening of buena vista it shows that a ride free opening is possible, so why haven't they opened all food and shopping locations?

If they want rides, at the very least, they can have limited operations on the Disneyland Railroad. My local miniature railroad was able to engage in socially-distant operations, at least until they were forced to shut down again when Santa Clara County went back on lockdown.
                Disney visits over the years:
                • Disneyland, December 2000 (plus Legoland)
                • Disneyland, Summer 2003 (plus Legoland, SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Model Railroad Museum, and Knott's Berry Farm)
                • Disneyland, December 26, 2004-January 2, 2005 (mom's 40th birthday at Plaza Inn; New Year's at Disneyland)
                • Disneyland, July 2005 (Pre-Disney Cruise visit)
                • Walt Disney World, December 15-25, 2006 (plus Kennedy Space Center)
                • Disneyland, August 2007
                • Disneyland, July 1-4, 2009
                • Disneyland, July 2011 (plus Universal Studios)
                • Disneyland, November 2011 (dad's 50th birthday)
                • Disneyland, June 2013
                • Walt Disney World, July-August 2013 (plus Universal CityWalk)
                • Disneyland, June 7-8 2014
                • Disneyland, December 27-31 2014 (mom's 50th birthday; my tenth visit)
                • Disneyland, Summer 2015 (plus Universal Studios)

If they opened without rides and attraction and basically turned the park into a Disney themed glorified South Coast Plaza Irvine Spectrum I think it would be seen as a negative to most. Especially if they charged admission which they would likely have to do to keep from getting overrun by social media FOMO's. They really just need to hunker down and do all they can to promote mask wearing and vaccinations as that will be their fastest route to getting numbers to a level that the park is able to open to a level where they could provide a safeR environment and be able to charge admission without the negative backlash. Then they can really bring back their workforce who has sadly been hit hard by this whole period in history.
