  • Future of entertainment

I think it’s a given Magic Happens, Fantasmic and World of Color will return as soon as it’s allowed, but what about Paint The Night or Main Street Electrical Parade? Has there been any rumblings of the future plans for those once Covid gets under control? Do the floats still exist backstage?

As long as DLR has more customers than it can handle, management will feel no pressure to spend money on a full slate of entertainment. (Or a full slate of rides, for that matter.)

"Disneyland is often called a magic kingdom because
it combines fantasy and history, adventure and learning,
together with every variety of recreation and fun,
      designed to appeal to everyone."

      - Walt Disney

"Disneyland is all about turning movies into rides."
      - Michael Eisner

      "It's very symbiotic."
      - Bob Chapek

I thought PtN and MSEP were permanently mothballed anyway?

Absolutely, this. Disney comes up with big entertainment offerings with the explicit purpose of bringing more people through the gate in order to increase sales. At this point, all they need to do is promise to be open for people to flock to the turnstiles. I doubt we will see any hint of big parades or shows, again, until the excitement of the park reopening has slightly worn off.

IMO - I feel the Entertainment , will be kept very low key
Disney can save money on operation ,and Entertainment .

I believe it was a MiceChat article that said Frozen and Mickey and the Magical map were going dark indefinitely. I think these shows were great but I do not see the value in repeat viewing and I wonder if DLR being such a locals park they are realizing they both take a lot of real-estate for something that not only is seldom scene repeatedly but also keeps guests out of stores and restaurants for longer then they would like. In short I wonder if we will see these area dozed or repurposed into a ride type attraction? They could expand Marvels footprint into the theater and also Fantasyland into the Amphitheater where MatMM currently resides. I remember a thread back a couple of years where people talked about turning it into a Be Our Guest type of restaurant experience. Either way I enjoyed both shows but would not be upset to see those areas turned into future rides. I feel for the cast members though as those shows take some talent to pull off.

Another thing I wonder is most experts are already mentioning how pandemics are going be happening at a rate of every 25-50years going forward. DLR may change their parks slightly to be proactive against the next pandemic or the CEO will not care at all because like many other issues CEOs ignore these days it's "the next guys problem".

The only way I could see DL bringing back parades and stuff is if there are tons of food carts nearby.

This could work as long as the social distancing is in effect, with wall-to-wall bodies, it wouldn't be very effective.

The floats do still exist backstage. One of the "Covid-modified" break areas I use is inside the DCA parade building.

I doubt we will see any new major projects till mid decade. Their priorities are currently getting the parks working again, and finish or continue existing construction.

                        My guesses:
2021: Avengers Campus/WEB Singers, Snow White Refurb, Reworked Jungle Cruise
2022: Princess and Frog retheme for Splash?
2023: Mickey & Minnie Runaway Railway

Maybe they will finally add the planned walkaround characters to Galaxy's Edge and bolster the land up. Though, I worry that live music performers will get scrapped because Di$ney d̶o̶e̶s̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶p̶a̶y̶ ̶m̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ wants to follow "proper protocols"...

I think non-castle-centric fireworks would be a good thing.

I hope this doesn’t happen. This rumor has been popping up lately. It’s one thing letting WDW borrow Paint The Night, but chopping it up taking bits and parts will ruin Paint The Night permanently! Worse yet mixing Paint The Nights floats with Main Street Electrical Parade floats will ruin that parade to!

They should abandon Splash Mountain retheme and divert the funds to Magic in the Sky w/Tinker Bell and Main Street Electrical Parade instead.

Agreed, Disney needs updates on shows, not all the ride rethemes they're focusing on. As a shareholder, I'm displeased.

Has there been any talks of what will happen to Paint The Night? I miss it but nervous we may never see it again since it didn’t even come back pre covid. If we can’t get it back here I’d rather it go to Disney World for their 50th so we can at least see it somewhere.
