[Fun] How would you plus some attractions if you were an Imagineer?

Its always fun to brainstorm how to plus a few attractions at the parks, so, have at it!

I think a pretty common idea is to add some actual animatronics to GRR. The ride itself is honestly fun, it just needs a little extra Disney magic.

Now, this might be controversial, but I thought it'd be fun if they added some Easter eggs/references to Mr. Boogedy in the Haunted Mansion. I LOVED that movie as a kid, and it would fit the vibe pretty easily. He seems to be a nearly forgotten character at this point.

IASW: Hang an iridescent curtain from the ceiling of the Far North room, attached to a mechanism that makes it undulate and flutter. Add a little strategic lighting. Aurora Borealis.

PDJ: Replace the holographic "mirror" in Lampwick's hand with an LED screen that displays an animation of his face beginning to change.

Monorail: Vary the upholstery and colors in different cars and bring in some voice actors to record the spiel as different characters. Just for variety's sake.

Matterhorn: Put some of the glowing crystals back--not the same huge ones where they used to be, but smaller ones in clusters on the ice cavern walls.

Fun topic! I'm of the opinion that no attraction is perfect and that there is always room for plussing, so there is a lot that I could write, but here's some of my first thoughts:

Peter Pan's Flight: Make the opening Neverland scene more three-dimensional like the Disney World version. This would make the effect more convincing.

Alice in Wonderland: Bring back the "upside down room". I find this concept more engaging than the current Tweedle Dee/Tweedle Dum segment. It's also delightful to see classic elements return to attractions.

its a small world: I would welcome a new ending, as the current postcard ending, while fine, looks kind of cheap and rushed.

Soarin': Get new screens! Whether it's the California or World version the new screens make the video look warped if you're sitting on the side of the theater. You shouldn't have to sit in a certain spot to get the proper presentation. (I guess this is more fixing than plussing, but it's where Disney needs to start if they enhance the attraction).

• Peter Plan's Flight: Replace the "playmat" of London with a mat that is much darker, but with moving "lights" to represent cars and buses bustling below. I think more elements from the Shanghai Disneyland version could also be applied (i.e. screens and lighting upgrades in good taste).
• Pinocchio's Daring Adventure: The Pleasure Island scene could use some more intense and crazy lighting to make it feel more carnivalesque.
• Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: Replace the final room before the boulder scene with the Tokyo Disneyland fireball effect, or rework the lighting and design of that room and remove the skeleton paintings. Fix/replace effects that are no longer working. Restore the ride to its former glory!
• Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin: I think this ride would benefit from more visual effects in the style of Runaway Railway just to give it a bigger sense of 'chaos.' I don't want the ride to go, but it needs an extra kick, and I think adding some cartoon elements a-la 'screens' would be okay.
• Space Mountain: Add planet props with sick visual effects! I'm sure there's a creative way to make the ride more interesting than just stars floating about.
• Autopia: Replace the gas-powered cars with electric. Add more dioramas to the track in the vein of Storybook Land Canal Boats, but more like that of futuristic cities and nicely lit environments.
• The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure: During the "Under the Sea" sequence, add a blue curtain above to hide the ceiling and let it ripple to give it an 'under the sea' vibe.

I agree with most people in this thread regarding rides I didn't mention!

If the WDW Moana water attraction proves popular, do something similar (glass bottom walking over water maybe?) for the old motorboat area.

Fix the bride in HM so she doesn't look so terrible
Bring back Peoplemovers
Put Rocketjets back where they belong
Plus Pinocchio with MINOR special effects and graphics
Do something interesting for the train from MS to NOS, like a cutaway into the Jungle Cruise. Imagine the jokes!
New stage attraction for Fantasyland Theater
Toon themed sit down restaurant in ToonTown
Tear down old Carousel building and do something with that massive area
Star Wars stage show restaurant
Revamp Autopia into some sort of futuristic car that looks like it's hovering and make them electric
Bring back Captain EO
Completely new attraction in place of Winnie the Pooh.
Get rid of Paradise Pier carnival rides and do something more interesting. Maybe a version of Gran Fiesta Tour that loads up top and goes under the water. (This is super impractical and I have no real ideas except that I hate the carnival rides)

I would add a bunch of scary audioanamatronic Injun Joe figures all around Tom Sawyer's island which pop out and frighten kids in their adventures on the island. Then I would sell Injun Joe costumes and mask, and other figures, but you would have to buy them on Tom Sawyer's island, using the old fort wilderness changed into a new 'Trading post'. I would also sell some kind of really great ice cream/desert there, something to rival a Dole Whip. Come up with some Sam Clemens/Mark Twain type catchy name for the treat.

I have to Go with your list.......I think it pretty good!

1. Astro Orbiter – Tear down and rebuild the Astro Orbitor/Peoplemover platform. Return the People Mover to Tomorrowland except with a sleeker, modern design and slightly faster speed than the original. Replace and reroute all the track.
2. Star Tours - Use the motion simulators for a new "Mission to the Planets" attraction. This space flight is a hybrid of the old “Mission to Mars/Flight to the Moon/Star Tours” attraction except the flight takes you to a few, random, outer planets or moons.
3. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters - Time for Buzz to move out and go to DCA with the rest of the PIXAR rides. BLAB gets an ATIS makeover using trackless tech. This is a 3D glasses attraction
4. Tomorrowland Theater (Captain EO) – Completely gutted and becomes part of the updated Space Mountain. See #5
5. Space Mountain - An entirely new Space Mountain contained in an expanded building. Gut the mountain as it is now. The track, lift hill, flying cookies, everything. The new Space Mountain will LAUNCH you into space from the old EO area similar to the Rockin Roller Coaster. We get loops, twists, and gut wrenching, multiple G-force turns and it’s all contained in the mountain. The indoor queue needs to be reworked for these changes. (See #6)
6. Pizza Port - The old Mission to Mars building becomes the new entry area for the updated Space Mountain. This is an expanded queue, restore and update the old area Mission to Mars control center with modern AA’s, etc. The Pizza Port can move into the old Space Place area, upstairs. Indoor and outdoor dining is on the upper floor.
7. Autopia - Electric, Electric, Electric.
8. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage - Get rid of the Nemo theme and replace it with something closer to the original; exploring the dark depths of the ocean, hydroponic farming or exploring a sunken ship that looks realistic (think Titanic imagery).
9. Innoventions - I like the Carousel Building. It’s time for a new revolving show. Put the Carousel of Progress back in but with a completely redesigned and updated show.
10. Replace the murals on Star Tours and BLAB with video walls and/or projection mapping. Returning the Mary Blair murals would be a nice touch but if they are not restorable put a representation into the video wall show.
11. Remove the floating ball near Space Mountain and move it to the area the Astro Orbiter occupies now. It’s a nice centerpiece for the Tomorrowland entrance.
12. The Fantasyland Theater has run its course, remove it and put in a multilevel show building. Two dark rides can fill that space on different levels. There are plenty of IPs that aren’t represented; like Frozen, Aladdin, Tangled, etc. Multiple entrances on different parts of the building hide that one is above the other.
13. Fantasyland Train Station. Re-theme the station to whatever IP takes over the nearby building.
14. Small World. Some of the IPs added to IASW were well done (Alice) others were in-your-face (Nemo and Pinocchio). Remove and/or tone down the in-your-face additions.
15. Haunted Mansion. FIX CONSTANCE or replace her with a hybrid. The hybrid Constance would still have the axe projections but have a blacked out face with glowing eyes. Her voice would float in the room at a lower volume.
16. Pirates. Jack Sparrow (enough said). Redd can stay but do something about the scenes dialog.
17. Grand Canyon Diorama. Add some animation to the animals.
18. Grizzly River Run. Add animatronics reminiscent to the MTNNW or Bear Country depending on the look you’re going for.
19. Guardians of the Galaxy needs a new facade that is in line with Avengers Campus.
20. Give the Hyperion Theater a proper facade that looks like the time period of the area. Get rid of the Studio Backlot facades and make them look real.
21. Give the area around Monsters Inc a theme instead of a Backlot appearance.
22. Paradise Pier area. Remove the off-the-shelf attractions (including Goofy). Move the food stations to the lakeside and build another dark ride. There has to be an IP that suits the area.

I'll give some ideas not offered yet.

-Tomorrowland Train Station: Change the aesthetic to a sleek Contemporary look.
-Indiana Jones: Remove the Rat effect for a projection mapping sequence. New affect could have lava leaking through the chamber.
-Buzz Facade: Have the back of the building covered with a faux stone brick wall. OR plant the Square Trees from Disneyland Paris.

Soarin: A remastered version of the original with recreated and new footage. Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack returns..New scenes of Droids flying in Silicon Valley and a flyby of the Walt Disney Museum in San Francisco. New ending in DCA, with World of Color closing out the ride. Speaking of...
World of Color: New Scenes for Moana(Medley/We Know the Way), Raya (Sisu being 'formed' by the water), Frozen II(Elsa's crystal display in 'Show Yourself').
Radiator Springs Racers: Add a cameo of a CARS version of Herbie the Love Bug, who congratulates riders as they leave the ride.

Miscellaneous:
-SELL TRIPLE DENT GUM IN PIXAR PIER!
-Have all of the custodians in Avengers Campus, dressed up as DAMAGE CONTROL workers.
-Have Ant-Man & the Wasp enter Avengers Campus via Luis's van.

I've said this before in another thread, but a really cheap, easy, and quick plus-ing to Indiana Jones would be to put it some additional rock work or "temple walls" along some of those darker corners. I am thinking of spots like where the rat projection used to be/sometimes is. I got walked off the ride one time and now can't help but see the areas where there is only a few stray 'vines' as scenery. I second the addition of the fireball effect!

I think Star Tours is still a good concept, in a perfect world, it could just be transplanted where the Fantasyland theater is and exit through to Galaxy's Edge. Spruce up the ride with new motion bases, and it is expandable with new planets from Mandalorian and any of the upcoming shows. As far as the ride as it exists in the real world, fix the luggage scanner in the queue. I think it would be worth it to upgrade the motion bases anyways, since moving the ride across the park is just a crazy idea in my head. But it could be a sort of analog to the Galactic Starcruiser port as a gateway "offworld" to Batuu.

Obvious upgrade is new mission(s) for Smuggler's run. Half surprised they didn't have one on deck and ready to go. Then again, maybe not so surprised considering how much was cut.

Also agree with an HD Soarin' upgrade.

I'm not sure exactly what I would do, but something needs to be done about the Incredicoaster. Static figure here, static figure there, static figures on sticks.

Great ideas everyone!

- I would like to plus the PM tracks to have a People Mover on them. ( I think somebody else may have mentioned this )

- Put Rockets back ( also mentioned before I believe )

- Make Autopia electric get rid of the guide rail and use sensors to keep cars in the proper lane.

- Add lights, scrims and screens to IASW to simulate sky whether night or day as well as other effects.

- Get rid of Goofy's sky school and put something not off the shelf in it's place, same for Symphony Swings. DCA should not just feel like a Knott's knock off in any area.

- Remove the bird dropping covered panther from the section of DLRR behind Jungle Cruise ( real panthers aren't covered in droppings )

- Make Nemo subs Journey to the Center of the Earth and have it take you to the earths core.

- I was going to say make Star Tours the new ATIS but I like what others have said about making Buzz into the new ATIS.

- Move Star Tours to SWGE or convert it to a Wall-E themed ride

- Bring back the Skyway but have it go from Tomorrowland to across from Thunder Mountain taking you from the future to the past.

- Add ducts to increase air flow on the Monorail or add AC to the trains. Extend the track so another staton can be put into DLH and or an additional station in DCA.

- Remove Sparrow from POTC

- Remove Fantasyland theater and put in a medium thrill ride featuring a newer Princess IP like maybe Brave, Frozen or Tangled.

- Take out turtle talk , animation academy and the Disney JR show etc. keep the same facade and put a worthy Monsters Inc. ride there that can seamlessly transition into Marvel Campus, take the old Monster Ride and instead build an E-ticket for Wreck it Ralph.

Haunted Mansion: I would do away with the current "boundless realm" loading zone that we have in favor of a large room clearly still inside the mansion. Something akin to the Phantom Manor loading zone but it wouldn't need to be 1:1. The reason for this is because our loading zone is now unsightly levels of bright and the exposed, unfinished and undecorated walls are a real eyesore (seriously, it looks like they're covered in super glue). One could argue "just darken this area again" but I feel like that wouldn't solve the problem for folks whose eyes have adjusted to the dark after waiting in line for an extended period of time. I'd do this, along with refurbing the sound system for the Omnimovers because it's always been really hit or miss with them.

I always tend to think of it as minor changes to an existing attraction that do not significantly impact the theme or tone or "plot" (in the case of more narrative attractions). Some of y'all are talking about outright demolishing existing attractions and building entirely new ones, which I would put well outside the boundaries of "plussing." Am I off-base here?

No, I don't think you are. I think the premise makes the thread challenging, by focusing on what's actually there, instead of a laundry list of complaints with DL.
