  • Hayley and Walt Go to Disneyland

Here's nice interview with Hayley Mills that was on the Parent Trap DVD -- at 16:15 she talks about her relationship with Walt and how he was different from other bosses/studio heads - footage of them at together at Disneyland.

Walt even with all his flaws of the men of his time was still a very special individual when it came to his addiction on making people happy. Every CEO that has come after him has failed to live up to the standard he set. Their mantra should always be "What would Walt Do?, ok now do that but with modern standards" Was Walt a financial wizard? Hell no, but he had Roy and because he wasn't driven by a bonus he was able to usher in some of the greatest attractions ever conceived even by today's standards back in the 50's. Some say Walt was the greatest talent scout in history and even better, knew when to get out of the way of talent.

Oh thank you for this! I’m in the demographic of little girls of the ‘60s who idolized Hayley. We cut our hair like hers, tried to talk like her, and fought over who got to ‘be’ Hayley in our imaginary games.

A lovely trip down memory lane.

Hayley's long-awaited autobiography Forever Young out today (NOT from TWDC). The preview articles look really good - she has a lot to say about her relationship with Walt.

From an US Weekly interview with Hayley promoting the book:

                        >>“He was very warm. He was very genuine, and he adored what he did, he loved making films. He loved Disneyland. He was a good human being. He was a good man,” Mills told Us. “This is another thing I’ve realized during writing the book, how marvelous, how lucky [I was] to have known Walt Disney, because it was his studio. It wasn’t just put there by a committee."

On the best advice she learned from the legend himself, she said: “I said something to him, probably a little bit obvious, like, ‘Do all your films have a message?’ And Walt said, ‘I want to show people the best of themselves.’ How could you not love somebody who says that was his driving force? That was what motivated him. He was a force of good in the world.”<<

I was surprised when in the youtube video she said she would probably best be known for Pollyanna and The Parent Trap. The Parent Trap is for sure the best (it always reminded me of my summer camp experiences), but I definitely thought Trouble With Angels would be her second most famous movie. It's hysterical! Really shows her growing up and also the cultural changes that happened between the two movies. Subtle, but telling. The sequel was a little jarring (I don't think she's in it). There is a great ROKU channel I love, Cla*sic R*el, only 3 bucks a month, and they have TONS of old movies, especially 60s. Ne*flix used to have old movies, but obviously not anymore. I think that's where I caught the sequel. Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows. I also think they have 40 pounds of trouble, the one with the extensive chase scene through Disneyland.
