  • News Genie+ Pricing and Info

Disney released the paid FP replacement program details: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...4wo0805210048A

Essentially Genie+ is the new Maxpass but costs $20 dollars a day (no mention of any type of AP/keyholder pricing). The FP lane is now called the Lightning Lane.

You can also pay for individual attraction access; price will vary by demand.

FP for free is gone but you can still get in virtual or stand-by queues “free” as usual.

Exactly...just another Disney Cash Grab, and making sure you have a phone in front of your face all day!!! Ugghh so annoying
Telling Genie to stay in the bottle would be my first and last wish!

Did MaxPass used to be free with APs under the previous structure?

It cost 100 to add to your AP for the year IIRC. It was included or free if you will for Signature Plus but not Signature and below.

Best comment ever in the MiceChat article!

"They used the wrong character to brand this. Should’ve been called the Scrooge McDuck pass. Now I have to pay to ride certain rides without waiting? What’s next? $5 to use the bathroom? $3 to sit on a bench for 5 minutes? How anyone can visit this corporate greed fest of a park and still find it “magical” is beyond me."

              Uggh. Monetizing EVERYTHING.

The only silver lining I see in this is that it's not included in the APs, so wait times shouldn't be impacted too much ... I think. That's a reach, though.

The truth is that I am hating DL more each day. I used to think I'd have an AP and take my kids to DL regularly, but now I'm thinking my kids will find other interests. Being in SoCal, I have many other entertainment options that haven't been price-gouged to death.

Interesting that the Individual Attractions that will be available will be separate from those included in the regular Genie+ pool... so essentially doubling down on their money. Because, say Radiator Springs is one that is only available through the individual purchase option and it costs $10/person to get in the line...That's $30 from a single person to utilize the new Lightling Lane.

Between all the different types of lines and access points...this is so convoluted. Standby, VQ, Genie+ and Genie+ individual...why is there a need for so many??

It'll be interesting to see how the lack of a free FastPass affects park operations. If wait times from the past week are any indication, Disneyland is first and foremost a locals park (at least in the off-season). Do we really think Magic Key holders, especially those utilizing the payment pan, are going to shell out for Lightning Lane privileges each and every visit?

I know you're giving a hypothetical, but $10/person would be WAY too low for DL. I'd estimate closer to $20-30 per person for RSR.

Agreed...I'm just throwing numbers out there... I think $10 was the lower end of the Disneyland Paris equivalent, so I went with that.

And speaking of RSR...will it be part of the Genie+ at all (normal or individual)? Or will it remain VQ only? Because, then WTH.

That's also what I'm thinking could happen. I'd be curious to know how many of the people who used to be in the fastpass line actually purchased MaxPass on that day.

I can't even remember the last time I rode standby for some of the fastpass attractions. I guess I'll finally find out what the queue for Radiator Springs Racers looks like.

I will not pay extra for a fastpass.

Single rider for RSR is pretty much always <15 minutes. I couldn’t imagine paying for a fast pass for it.

                              Everybody loses.

Guests who can't tolerate standby lines will have to pay extra, and those who can't afford standby will be forced to stand in the blazing heat.

Further proof that Disney never cared for the guest experience. I'll mark this one on my whiteboard.

EDIT: Also I totally called it with the removal of GOTG: MB Fastpass machines.

Lovely.... if enough of the population actually doesn't end up spending money on the paid version here, do you think they'll consider it a failure and potentially eliminate it? I know it's extremely wishful thinking, but if they only actually see 5-10% of visitors actually paying for this nonsense, do you think they would pull the plug? From all the negative press surrounding so many of the recent statements/decisions made by Chapek, I wonder if this being a failure could put some pressure on him from different board members and high-volume stockholders? Again, wishful thinking...

I was thinking of going for a day in Oct/Nov, but if they roll this out before then I think I may delay until next year until I see how other people's experiences go. It just sounds like a recipe for disaster as far as being able to utilize your time wisely. Now you have to say 'utilize your time wisely and pay the big bucks'.

So if I have this right Genie+ is pretty much MP, which I liked. But now there's no more 90 minute window until you can get another one when the 'return times' are pushed way out. Sounds as if it's one at a time period regardless of whether or not your 'entry time' is in 10 minutes or in 10 hours. So if you get a G+ at say 3pm with return time for HM for say 8 pm, you're SOL for any more until after 8pm. That really sucks.

And the 'Boarding Groups'. Part of the info made it sound as if BG were going to be expanded to include other rides which would almost seem to be like 'mini-FP sorta kinda.

As far as Lightning Lane, nah thanks, I'll pass. I just can't see it.

Looks like a lot of us are going to be standing in a lot of stand by lines.

Nothing they have cooked up -- be it the reservation system, complicated ticketing structure, pre-order of food, or this new multi-tiered ride access -- aligns with my idea of a good time. Hard pass

If Genie+ worked like old fast pass and max pass, the 20 dollar cost would be bearable .

But it only covers a certain amount of rides ? I’d still have to pay for some other e tickets ?

If that’s the case, forget it.

I read all of this and......not one bit of it sounds fun at all. Stand by, virtual queue, lightning lane, lightning lane plus, boarding groups. It’s so convoluted I don’t even want to put effort into learning how to manage it all. It just feels like work, work I don’t want to do for a vacation.

I didn’t mind putting in a little research and staying up to snag fastpass+ stuff for WDW because at least when I’m the parks we had three actions: choose to stand in stand by line, go for our fastpass ride and stand in a line, see if there was a new fastpass we could add.

This stuff just makes other theme parks appear simple and fun in comparison, I have kids; I’d rather just find a line to stand in or pre book or choose a fastpass, I don’t want to figure out a boarding group, and a virtual stand by, and if some ride is individual pay for lightning lane or not, I just wanna have fun; something Disney seems to be squeezing out of a vacation with convoluted marketing garbage. God I hope people feel the same say screw it and just go stand in lines at Universal, Knotts, or LEGOLAND.
