  • [Chat] How does Disneyland's compensation for new CMs contrast with this?

I saw this sign at an In 'n' Out in LaVerne, CA today. (LaVerne is east of San Dimas and north of Pomona.)

How does this contrast with what Disneyland's new CMs get?

EXCERPT from the article linked below:
"Costco's new starting wage [$17 minimum] puts the chain— which has among the lowest turnover rates in the retail industry— $2 per hour above Amazon, Target and other top retailers' minimum wage, and $5 an hour above Walmart's."

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/27/busin...age/index.html

Costco is going to attract better employees than D.land & WDW will.

Disney freaks would be better off not working for Disney, and earning more money elsewhere so they can live better and even better enjoy Disney parks & cruises.

Isn't disney trying to attract new resort employees with signing bonuses? I believe they get like $1500 for some roles if they stay on at least three months. I have a feeling they're going to see a lot of turnover after three months.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the tracks...

Disney CEO Bob Chapek Buys $12.5 Million Westlake Village Estate

"Bob Chapek, the Walt Disney Company’s head honcho since February 2020, has significantly upgraded his Westlake Village residential circumstances with the $12.5 million purchase of a sprawling contemporary estate atop an impressive promontory. The transaction represents the area’s biggest real estate deal since July 2019, when NuVet owner Blake Kirschbaum shelled out $35 million for a different Westlake Village compound, though that one was a far larger and more lavish property.

"Located roughly an hour northwest of Downtown L.A. by car, the Chapek mansion is also sited within an exclusive 24/7 guard-gated community, where some of the famous neighbors include The Miz of WWE fame and fortune, Heather Locklear, Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp and veteran internet celebrity Trisha Paytas, whose striking new mansion is one of two homes she owns in the area.

"None of those neighbors are new to Chapek and his longtime wife Cindy, however, because they’ve been living in the same gated enclave since 2019. Back in May of that year, the couple shelled out $5.3 million for a Mediterranean-inspired villa that sits only a short jog away from their new digs. That “starter” house, incidentally and not surprisingly, is now back and available for sale on the open market, tagged with a much-increased $7.495 million ask. And like the new property, that place is also saddled with $650 in monthly HOA dues, which covers the association’s guard expenses, plus beautification costs for the golf course-adjacent community.

"Jordan Cohen of Re/Max One held the listing on the $12.5 million property; Erin Pohl and Bob Pearson of Coldwell Banker repped Chapek. Pohl and Pearson also hold the listing on Chapek’s former Westlake Village home.

"Built new in 2013, the palatial estate is unusual in that the entire place is completely single-story, custom designed for its original owner, Lebanese immigrant and local produce market owner Ephram Nehme and his wife. The nearly 10,000-square-foot house sits well out of neighborly sightlines, behind its own private gates and up a long private driveway. The lot spans more than six acres, with an attached five-car garage and palatial motorcourt with room for 15+ additional vehicles...."

it combines fantasy and history, adventure and learning,
together with every variety of recreation and fun,
        designed to appeal to everyone."

"Disneyland is all about turning movies into rides."

        "It's very symbiotic."

Westlake Village? There’s a lot more swanky neighborhoods he could have chosen to live in that are a lot closer to Burbank. And if he chose to be near Disneyland he could have chosen Newport Beach or Anaheim Hills.

Walt’s home was in Holmby Hills which was some distance from Disneyland but he spent the night inside Disneyland if he had to. And he most certainly wanted to. If I had to bet I’d say Chapek would rather sleep on a bed of razor blades than spend one night in Disneyland.
