  • The amount of breakdowns has been ridiculous

Prior to this trip I have been evacuated from one ride at Disneyland ever, RSR. This trip I’m up to 3 and counting in just 2 days. It’s laughable how many rides have gone down while in line too. They’ll make you get out of line after you’ve waited 30+ minutes, then you’ll walk to the next attraction to find it closed as well.

The amount of time lost because of it has been frustrating to say the least. It’s easily ten times worse than I’ve ever seen it. To top it off this is the most broken effects on rides I’ve ever seen too. I rode India Jones today and not a single major effect was working, I couldn’t help but laugh afterwards.

I definitely won’t be returning anytime soon.

I've been noticing this from afar (via TikTok and Reddit).

Most people are chalking it up to the rides experiencing lower loads and little maintenance in 2020, thus the issues are leaking into 2021.

I've actually taken a small step back and I can see Disney kind of racing around to try and fix these issues with refurbs scheduled for most of these rides (except Indiana... for now). But yeah. I heard the last couple of days have been pretty rough.

Yet everyone will continue to pay for passes to keep reporting these things.
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???

I feel like every time an attraction "breaks down", the techs only bandage up the issues. I don't think Disney wants to actually spend the money on doing the repairs correctly. Business is up and running again! They can't afford to close a popular attraction right now with all the money pouring in. Disney is basically Stromboli and we're the kids

I thought Indiana Jones had some big references for its 25th anniversary right before the park closure. Did they not actually go through with that?

The saddest part for me is that Disneyland was closed for a year, which in theory seems like it would have been the greatest opportunity in Disneyland history to touch up on every attraction and get them in top shape. I know they were loosing a ton of money, but it still pains me that attractions aren't up to par after they basically had a year to refurbish any attraction they wanted.

(Tangent: The most exciting ride breakdown I've been on is having Mulholland Madness/Goofy's Sky School stop whilst my car was on one of the sharp turns. Now that evacuation was a queasy experience).

I find myself coming to Micechat less often these days since I have not returned to the parks, Seems every week or so I return the topics are similar to this and revolve around all that is wrong and lacking within the parks and the list just keeps getting longer. This in turn makes us decide to stay away longer and longer from the parks. As much as people claim to hate crowds I find all the issues with cost cutting far bigger a problem and more of a deterrent to my family than crowds ever were.

It’s the Pressler years all over again! They never learn! How long will it take lower maintenance is going to cause an injury or …….. !

If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.

I stayed away through the Eisner/Pressler era and appears I may be doing the same through Chapek. The funny thing is when I explain what is going on to my teenage Daughters aWife they are on my side and feel they also do not want to contribute to a park run by chapek. If my family of Disneyphiles feels this way then I suspect many others do as well. Yes I know there are tons of people still filling the gaps but those people are not as loyal as AP's who once visited at least once month as all of those that I know have moved on from Disneyland at this point. Some are now Knotts AP's while most are simply over theme parks and their "carney like" attempts on exploitation of customers.

I think we shouldn't race to conclusions on Maintenance. The arguement of 'they had a year" to fix everything is a bit of an exaggeration. Disney did not know that it was going to take over a year to reopen DLR or when they were allow to. Lets not forget the company wound up resorting to a debt offering of $6 Billion for funds last year (and yes I know the company is not "poor", but a $6 Billion loan is still a lot of money).

It should be noted Disney did do refurb work during the closure. Frontierland's Bridge was widen. Haunted Mansion's facade was repaired. Pavement in the hub was repaired. Pirates was refurbed early in the closure. Snow White and King Arthur's carousel completed their work. Landscaping was done in the parks. And construction of Avengers Campus and MMRR was restarted after delays from the pandemic.

And TDA has continued with refurbishments after the parks have reopen, with Big Thunder Mountain currently getting 2 full months of refurbishment work done. This is a good sign in my opinion, as it shows that TDA knows that maintenance needs to bedone and not ignored. This is the complete opposite of the Pressler Era.

Has the company cut cost by prioritizing their workload (AKA why Splash Mountain's AAs haven't been fixed)?
Yes, but I rather they focused on matinence that needs to be fixed, over something that is just simply needs "cosmetic work" (like an out of order AA).

The Pressler Era was stained from the many injuries and deaths of guests/cast members. All from either lack of safety or deferred matinence. I do not want to return to that time. However, I wouldn't compare the current 'breakdowns' or 'bad show' to that same infamous era.

(Sorry for the long rambling post)

Indiana is scheduled for its refurb, which gives me a nice glimmer of hope.

Though I think when I was writing that previous post, the specific breakdowns I had in mind were the lengthy ones occurring on Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm unsure as to why the ride is struggling so often, but I can only cough it up to the lower loads.

When the parks have been sitting for a year.....
Most of the Rides and attraction......is not going be up running ,the way they should be.
And Disney was in hurry to open up again.....(for the MONEY) !
and add cut back to the CM's.
