Can anyone clarify what the US's actual travel ban was? Everything I'm reading is making it sound like the US was totally closed off since last year, yet I encountered a ton of international visitors during my escapades this past summer, especially in the national parks. In particular, there were a lot of Indian and Chinese visitors, and they even had Chinese tour buses running. I also met people visiting from Europe and South America. Were there some kind of exceptions for vaccinated travelers at some point? Or is my experience a glitch in the matrix?🤷♂️ I'm open to it being the latter.

Personally, I don't think there will be a HUGE influx for some time. First because schools are in session in most parts of the world so that probably means that most families with school age children won't be coming until their winter (summer in the southern hemisphere) breaks. Second because it usually takes time to plan a vacation, especially a 'long distance' one involving flights, covid rules, and finding accommodations.

I also think the reservation system will be a factor. I'd expect an increase in int'l visitors in December because schools will be out and there will be time for planning, but how many people actually come may be affected by reservation availability or lack thereof.

WDW is going to be flooded. Way less a problem at DLR, which is not so much an internationals resort (maybe a bit from Asia, much less so from Europe). I'm a DVC member and most European DVC members and the like have been circling waiting for the moment they can travel. It will be noticeable and, unlike Americans, they are less whiny and turned off by COVID rules and "inconveniences" and have no problem coming over

The US had their borders to Canada & Mexico closed to non-essential travel.

In addition, Alaska cruise ships could not travel & stop in Canada from the US or returning to. International Cruise ships were granted a temporary waver to allow cruises between US & Alaska ports of calls by skipping Canada (US Maritime law has a clause that requires International owned ships to stop in other countries during voyages).

Disneyland also appeals to Western Mexico and Australia/New Zealand. The latter of which will have students on Summer Break by Christmas time.

Disneyland appeals to the countries of the Pacific, while WDW appeals to the countries of the Atlantic.

You know, I have wondered the same thing. I assumed people just had to say they were visiting relatives or working, and bibbity-bobbity in they came!

To cross a land border you had to show proof of employment in the United States, or proof that your job was sending you to the United States. Visiting family members or even a property you owned was deemed non essential. You could always fly. However, to return to Canada, as an example, you needed and still need a negative PCR test both leaving by air and returning by air; or returning by land. This meant and still means a lot of families are not bothering to travel abroad up here; as for a family of four the additional costs of the test can be as much as $1000. Something most people can't afford or are just not willing to pay.
