Rather than a traditional trip report, these are observations I made on my most-recent Disneyland trip.
Maintenance Issues
Our first ride of our first day, as is tradition, was Indiana Jones. And wouldn't you know it, we encountered Peter Tu, clapping as usual! We also saw Maynard walking to Tropical Hideaway to clock in. I was also alerted to FreshBaked being in the park on our first day via YouTube, but we were in Tomorrowland and therefore unable to intercept him.
On our last day (Wednesday, November 24), my mom and brother were returning from the bathrooms in Adventureland, and saw Maynard arranging strollers. They said hello to him, and he launched into a story about the "invisible babies" trying to chew the trees next to stroller parking. He also told my dad his life story, and later launched into a story about the cracks in the pavement, saying it's because the elephants from the Indian Elephant Bathing Pool on the Jungle Cruise have an underground breakroom with a trampoline that causes them to keep hitting their heads on the ceiling, and that scientists have been trying to no avail to cushion their heads. And of course, he broke out the Tiki Maynard character for the Tiki Room, and he actually started breaking character and laughing.
Everytime I go to Disneyland, my first priority is finding out which trains and monorails are running. On all five days, Monorails Red and Blue were running.
From Saturday to Monday, the trains were #3 Fred Gurley with Holiday Blue, and #1 CK Holliday with the Excursion Train. On Tuesday, the trains were reshuffled, with Gurley reunited with her Excursion Train, and #4 Ernest S. Marsh taking over Holiday Blue. This was the first trip in which I rode behind the same locomotive on two different sets (Holiday Blue on Saturday, Excursion Train on Wednesday). At no point was #5 Ward Kimball out, and #2 EP Ripley, last I heard, was at Hillcrest for overhaul (I just hope this is the case, and Cheapek didn't discreetly scrap her and just got lucky that nobody has blown the whistle so far).
Maintenance Issues
- Indiana Jones Adventure: Snake is stationary (sound effects still play)
- The Little Mermaid: The Scuttle animatronic at the end had a stuck mouth on Sunday (when we rode it again on Tuesday, it was fixed)
- Splash Mountain: On Saturday, two of the geese on the riverboat were stationary; on Wednesday, they were all functioning, but the one in blue was leaning
- Disneyland Railroad: Holiday Blue needs new brakes, pterodactyl closest to the tracks in the Primeval World diorama is non-functional, gates at Tomorrowland grade crossing aren't lowering all the way, and one of the wig-wags isn't wig-wagging
- Disneyland Monorail: Monorail Blue rode roughly, definitely time for new trains with NEW CHASSIS (not reskins of the old Mark III chassis like the Mark V and VII trains)
- Mr. Toad's Wild Ride: Hell isn't humid
- Radiator Springs Racers: Sheriff doesn't bounce, the first Mater doesn't roll forward or back (but his mouth and bouncing are still functional), the tractors and Frank are still hit-and-miss
- Luigi's Joy to the Whirl: Unreliable as a whole, broke down while we were waiting in line and later seen running with less cars than normal
- Toy Story Midway Mania: Whooshes of air are completely absent
- Star Tours: Luggage belt was stationary, leaving many of the scans looking off
- Autopia: Gears have been grinding when the transmission is engaged for years; definitely time for electric cars
- It's A Small World Holiday: Need I say more?
- Enchanted Tiki Room: Several birds and flowers were either not moving ore barely moving (at least the MC birds were working properly, and it was worth going to the show just for Maynard)
- Smuggler's Run: Hondo was not working and hidden
