  • Are theme park crowds finally dwindling?

Recently I and others I have been talking to are feeling the FOMO's have worked through the system and crowds have been receding in recent weeks from all theme parks. My family noticed Knotts crowds were steadily getting bigger and bigger peaking on Halloween and then have since seemingly been receding. Even the few people we know who still go to DLR have said the Holiday crowds do not seem as strong as they were looking in early November. I knew that we would start seeing a reduction as the post COVID surge cycled through but thought it would not begin to reseed until January/Feb. We were at Knott;s yesterday and many rides were walk on and only Ghost Rider seemed it's usual long wait time. Some rides like Montezuma's and Silver Bullet were walk on at times. I have read prior to Genie+ that wait times at DLR were also very short etc. Crowds seem to be more hefty at DLR as Knott's the last two times we have gone were very light even on some of the old choke points.

Has anyone else who frequents any of the SoCal parks noticed a reseeding of crowds in recent weeks? Some of it could be due to Omocron but I am still curious what everyone else is perceiving?

Well they're dwindling today, big storm coming through. Plenty of reservations for today, but in general I'd say the parks are still pretty packed. Now the lines feel like they're packed thanks to Jafar+

We got to Knott's at 7:30pm Saturday night and it was a zoo. In fact, I'd say the Knott's crowds have increased due to the Disney fallout. This can especially be felt on the weekends, I tend to watch the Knotts Live Web Cams from time to time and have noticed the outside queue for the Calico Mine Train be utilized more and more...a sign of it being very crowded.

SoCal discounts are back starting Jan. 3rd so I think this thread could be on-point.

I can see the evenings being crowded as when we leave around 4pm we notice far more people entering than we did at 9am where we could just walk right in. I think the crowds are due to several factors one being the Holiday Lights as well as a more young crowd and migration from DLR. The past couple of mornings we have gone both Sats and Sundays have been (no pun intended) ghost towns.

They'll be manageable again in January, but Disney's gonna start offering so cal residents discount tickets for weekends starting January, so that tells me Disney's trying to keep the crowds up as much as possible.

I just saw that but they are weekdays not weekends.

Which still makes sense, because weekends are normally not a major issue for Disneyland, but weekdays can go from medium crowds to ghost days during the weekdays. So yeah, definitely Disney trying to keep weekday crowds around the same level as that of weekends.
