  • America Sings question!

During America sings, was it the audience that rotated, or the stage? I watched a video and I just can't see how the audience would be able to rotate!

Heheh, the audience rotated. Watch the outside of Innoventions. The motion is still there.

The audience rotated around the fixed stage. In Tokyo Disneyland, their Carousel show (Meet the World) had the stage rotate instead. If the stage rotates it means there are smaller stages but more seats. In America Sings, there were larger stages but less seats.

      BTW - Evan500 - I just hit 1000 posts as well!

You can also see how it worked at WDW in the Carousel of Progress, which occupied that building in DL prior to America Sings.

I see cool guys, thanks! Are the old stages still in there? or did innoventions eliminate them?

Nope, all the stages are gone. The place was gutted. Now it's even more worthless than the empty shell it sat as for over 15 years.

Innoventions is truly an abomination when you consider the two shows that were there previously!

I wonder why they wouldn't want to do an updated version of CoP starting with 50's and then going up through the turn of the century. Maybe something the would truly reflect an idea of how the near future (30 years from now for example :P ) would be.

Hear, hear. It was a glorious place to take breaks between parades in the mid 90s. America Sings may have been closed but the A/C was in full operation :ap:

Sings was a great place to take breaks when it was vacant. We'd also go ghost hunting looking for the spirit of Deborah Gail Stone (who was killed on the attraction in 1974).

Lots of fun to explore the guts of a dead attraction on your breaks.

I would have loved to see America Sings. It's odd that as I started to read this thread, America Sings came up on my iTunes to play in the other room...

I can feel the rumbling underneath my feet now ......

                          Yankee Doodle went to town
                          A-riding on a pony
Stuck a feather in his hat
                          And called it macaroni.

                          Yankee Doodle, keep it up
                          Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy.

                              Re: America Sings question!

Remember how big "ghetto blasters" were in the 80s???

I brought my silver colored 2 foot wide 4 speaker system .. and plopped myself center front row in Jan 1988.

Greatest thing I ever did. Threw in a metal tape that is as good today as it was brand new (1988). It's my master recording .. and I made another tape that I regularly play, now and again.

It was a cassette recorder that had a low end of around 20 hertz. I had it on my lap ... and each time the theater went into motion .. the recording picked up the low end of the rumbling of the theater in motion. The revolving carousel ring sat on a set of railroad type tressles .. with wheels attaching the massive 200 foot wide rotating ring. And like any railroad tressle .. the wheels picked up the imperfections in the guide rail .. so when the theater was in motion .. you could pick up the ever-so-subtle bumps along the ride. I treasure my recording of the live show ..... the final mix of the soundtrack for the attraction is different than the final mix for the 33rpm album.

Anyway ... Burl Ives/Sam would start talking .. and his voice (as the theater was in motion) .. would go from right to left .. as the theater turned.

If you are very "sensory" like me ... it's these subtle things that make up a Disneyland ride experience. Especially any musical type attraction.
