Did they tone down the blacklight levels with the new paint/lights, or is the glowing effect mostly from video recordings? Bummed about the lack of fog/steam in the pit still, Temple Of Crystal Skull always has it.

I think I dig the new rat room scene overall. Hard to tell exactly what it is on the ride videos, but it looks a bit like the apparitions at the end of Raiders. Yes, it's a projection, but it's replacing an inferior quality projection. Although I still would have liked a bit more physical set pieces in that segment of the ride, I do appreciate that it fills out that space, which was one of my gripes. The projection hallway did remind me of Wolfenstein though... As usual, reserving final judgment until I actually see it in person. Would a practical effect be nice? Sure, but what can we really expect here? They're literally up against a wall in this scene. Would you rather have the projection, or would you prefer the black curtains with raffia 'vines'?

I am shocked, shocked I tell you, that they fixed up the insect swarm projection. I wonder if this is a mini projection mapping thing, or just a spiffed up regular ol' projector. Either way looks good to me. Is it me, or does it look like there's an improved mystical effect behind the door Indy is holding back?

I don't personally have an issue with any of the other projection mapping in this ride. When they debuted it as a replacement for the moving doors, I thought it was a really clever fix. I don't think it's an indictment on this generation of Imagineers (who, as far as I can tell, did not even add a screen to this ride) that they use modern technology that is at their disposal. When we're talking about retrofitting plus-es on an existing ride, I don't think it's necessarily fair to judge them by the fact that they couldn't magically fix the engineering problem of the doors, or that they didn't knock down a wall to extend the show building in order to build a forced perspective hallway.
"...nostalgia is the worst. It is a toxic impulse that leads to nothing good, honestly. The idea that things were better once and are terrible now and getting worse every minute is what fuels the worst, in my opinion, movements in contemporary culture." - John Hodgman

I view this refurbishment as a win. While there might be a long list of wishes, it feels like this recent scrub at least tackled some core issues.

On the subject of projections, I'm actually in favor of it when it comes to Indy. I hope sometime in the future they add some projection mapping to "plus" the dart room.

These things have budgets and if Imagineering had their way I’m sure they’d want the multiple doors (moving walls) back, falling boulders (ice machine), etc. at the same time budgets can’t be unlimited. Hell, the way Tony Baxter tells it, the ride wouldn’t have been built, because they couldn’t afford it, had accounting had their way. But Eisner told them they couldn’t afford NOT to build it. Yet, it, too, was not built on the budget needed for its original concept, with the mine carts and jungle cruise incorporated.

I texted a friend expressing doubt they’d ever do anything with that rat scene and lo and behold not only did they replace it, they did something brand new (and not, say, an adapted smoke ring effect from its international, sister attraction).

Where there was once a very old projection effect that rarely ever worked and darkness there is now a projection effect that will consistently work; a new, practical temple set piece; and a new projection effect in the background of that
set piece that will consistently work. Practical was not forgotten, and projections used carefully and tastefully can add a lot while keeping budgets in line.

Sure, there are other things to fix, like smoke effects, etc., that will probably be done in the future. But to get a brand new snake, the boulder going again, AND to replace and plus what was previously all black and an old effect that rarely worked—that’s a win. Plus they did a lot of good ol’ dirty work in cleaning and new lighting. And there’s actually an effect behind Indy holding the door, now, where a previous lack of effect always bothered me because it would be so simple to make that less obviously just a curtain.

              Thumbs up from me.

The glow effect does appear more intense on cameras it seems, BUT all things considered, it does seem more intense than it was before. It appears they did adjust the UV lighting so the florescent coloring pops, where else the props and scenes painted with simple black are better able to "disappear." Attention seems to have been placed on creating more depth, especially in simple painted scenes.

Sadly, yes, the lighting for the lava pit was improved, but the fog effect is still non-existent, so ironically, it's even more obvious, especially right after the snake attack sections where you end up nearly eye level to the lava pit, that it's just rock shaped lights on poles.

Can someone explain how the new "collapsing hallway" scene works? Is it just physical walls in the foreground, a screen further back in the "hall," and projection effects on the foreground walls that are integrated with the screen? And/or something else?

Saw a YouTube comment where someone said the reason the lava steam has never been fixed is due to "mold". I find this questionable, it isn't an ice machine...it's a fog machine with pipes. Plus the waterfall effect from the mouth uses water and is currently on, but without the fog it's largely unnoticeable in normal show lighting. Wouldn't a pool of open water be causing the "mold"?

Rode Indy for the first time since the refurb today (3/19) and was very pleased. Some highlights include snake being back to OG, boulder working and Indy animatronic mouth moving during that scene again, bugs projection fixed, skeleton leaping at you fixed, new scenes were pretty cool a lot easier to tell what’s happening. Don’t expect too much but a major improvement and the collapsing temple scene transitions to the rush to get out of the temple a lot better imho. Oh also improved lighting in the queue is an underrated improvement

Everything is practical besides the torch fire and wall collapsing

This ride has really been a struggle to keep running properly and I am not sure I have ever been to the parks when it was functioning fully.
There are people in charge of making planes fly and sending rockets to space. How a theme park cannot get simple, BASIC effects to work is beyond me. Especially when the Oriental Land Co. has operated the exact rides in opening-day state for decades now without needing to remove or b-mode effects.

All comes back to 💵. Is Disney willing to invest in effects that don’t spread through Word of mouth??? New snake will be talked about to others… same when if the boulder doesn’t work it’s gonna leave a poor taste in the mouth. Other than those two for the average guest everything else is extra

Like I get it, we want all effects back on. That was 20+ plus years ago. Lets be realistic and be happy all effects that normally work seem to be good and they added new ones.

If you really don't like these effects, I'm sorry but this is the peak of the ride since opening ride which lasted weeks maybe months but most effects broke very quickly
                              Happy Halloween!!!

hell I could crack open a champagne bottle, im happy enough that there was some work done on the ride that so desperately needed it.

while the lava pit still looks like charcoal during a BBQ, and the fog at the beginning of the ride still is/never will be there again, atleast the core elements of the ride is working.

Im not sure if this is true, but apparently the boulder might just be back in B-mode again, guess ill find out this weeks friday/saturday

Wow that didnt take long...kind of reminds me when they updated BTRR and the last scene where the dynamite explodes and there were pretty good steam bursts that happen to plus the effect...that literally lasted a couple months
