Oh, cool! Have a really great trip. I'm not sure which day you should visit Universal. Perhaps do it first? That way you don't get let down by going to Universal after Disneyland. And I'm glad you've got your proportions correct--Universal really does demand a fifth the time Disneyland does.

Spot on Datameister. We did that once a few years ago.

Hope you have a great trip Jimmy. You'll have to post an trip report when you get back and let us all know how it is.

We did Universal for one day in Dec and I encourage you to spend 1 day there and catch the shows and the couple of rides and tram tour. You won't need more than one day though.

For Universal, any one of those weekdays will be fine. Just keep in mind the shorter operating hours but you can enjoy a dinner at citywalk or catch a movie (they have IMAX). You can see the differences both pros and cons between citywalk and downtown disney.

If you go on a Friday, citywalk may be a bit busier but in a good way. It's never fun to go to a total ghost town.

You should definitely do Universal first......if you ended with Universal you would be depressed.

universal the first day! for two reasons...

#1 You will be anxious to get to DLR and though universal is ok, its no DLR!!

#2 you wont be let down by the universal lack of attractions when you leave your vacation.

i tried doing the universal studios in the middle once, all i wanted to do was leave and go back on space mountain!! As much as i like jurassic park and back to the future, its just not the same. the mummy ride is eh...boooring, and ET being gone is terrible. the shows are good though. Water World and such.

BTTF is gone anyway, mousephreak, so Universal is even less "worth it" now.

IMO, Universal Studios makes a great one-time-only sort of trip. The tram tour is definitely worth it, and Jurassic Park is pretty fun, and CityWalk could be enjoyable if you like that sort of thing, and you may find a few other things to do...but it doesn't have the can-never-see-it-all sort of appeal that Disneyland has. Approach Universal with an open mind, Jimmy, and for goodness' sakes, enjoy it...but enjoy it first. Disneyland will be like a breath of fresh air afterwards, because as fun as Universal is, Disneyland truly blows it out of the water.

That's cool if you want to go to Universal on the second day, but my previous advice still stands--if it were me, I'd do Universal first.

Re: 5 days in Disneyland and 1 in Universal

If you drive up on a weekday... avoid any freeway with a 5 in it!
Or leave Anaheim at 3am to avoid the traffic! Just my thoughts on the parking lots they call freeways in LA county! (leave after 7 am during the week and you'll be HATING yourself)

I might do some creative freewaying tho... do the 57 to 60 to 605 to 210 - which eventually turns into the 134 which will take you to Universal city.
Or 22 to 405 to 101 which is less crowded than the 5, but can still get pretty congested during peak hours. Avoid the 5 all the way and 110 thru LA if at all possible!!!

You could however come back the 101 and stop at the Soda Fountain in Hollywood for dessert!!! They are open until 10 pm and it is fairly easy access from the 101 freeway.

I think you have a great plan! Get a lil taste of DL, then finish with DL!
                            Have a great trip!!
                            Good morning, son
                            In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                            It was pain
                            Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

The thing that used to get me about Universal is that it cost *more* than Disneyland.

                              It doesn't anymore.
