  • Halloweentime Space Mountain Idea

I thought of a wierd yet cool idea last night that I wanted to share with you all! Space Mountain Alien Attack! I know it sounds wierd but here it is...
The storyline is a deadly alien from a distant planet is going to invade earth!
And now it's up to us to try and stop it! The beginning is sorta the same except the audio it's the tower giving us info about the monster. Then the second lift will have cracks in the surrounding glass and a gigantic Alien (projected) at the end of the tunnel that will be snarling and growling while floating in the middle deep space. When you reach outer space instread of a comet following you after the first decent there will be the alien screeching at you! The rest of the ride will be the same except the howls and growls of the alien echoing throughout the ride. And near the end at the last turn there will be an AA alien Snarling at you then boom the re-entry to the space port!

As long as there's no go-go dancers it's fine with me.

Anyways, that sounds like a great idea. But I would imagine in reality the last AA before the re-entry tunnel to be just a static figure with strobe lights & sound effects...

It might be cool to see the Go-go dancer projection used for aliens or something.

Not sure how the 1st alien that would replace the asteriod would work. Could it possibly be installed there? BTW, THEY STILL HAVEN'T LIT THAT ROCK UP, haha.

Not sure about the "Alien Attack" name. I think Hong Kong had a halloween theme name to their Space Mountain as "Ghost Galaxy"... "Alien Attack" sounds too much like Universal's Men in Black attraction... even though that's on the other coast.

But I still really like the idea.

This is actually very similar to what HK did for their Halloween overlay. The music at the beginning of the ride was very creepy and suspenseful. Not really sure what went on at Lift B because they don't have the video screens like ours. The majority of the actual ride was twisted sounding, spacey, Halloween-ish music accompanied by the screams & roars of ghosts/aliens as your rocket flew by them. I believe the creatures were a combo of projections and blacklight cutouts (like the Mummy), though don't quote me on that cause it's really hard to tell in videos.

Regardless, I still think it's a great idea, and I'd really like to see Space get a Halloween overlay of some kind, since so far this year it's currently without an alternate version.

          EDIT:

Found a video of it on YouTube. It's mostly dark so you can't really see any effects, but the audio is very good, which at least gives you an idea of the atmosphere (and the awesome soundtrack!). Enjoy!

What about theming it to be like the Night on Bald Mountain scene from Fantasia?

A big Chernabog, ghosts and horse skeletons, Night on Bald Mountain blaring in the speakers.... could be awesome.

Hmmm, could work. The difficulty is the cheese factor with the projections--it's difficult to convincingly pull off a 2D projection as a 3D creature or object, unless it's very far away, and thus very large. Perhaps replacing the (unlit) asteroid with an actual animatronic would be more effective. Then another could be suspended from the ceiling above the top of the final lift; this one could be illuminated just as you almost reached it, so that the first drop would be a "reaction" to its appearance.

Haha, thank you. The thing is, the space occupied by the asteroid is kind of not the place people naturally look. In fact, I'd suggest the alien remain unlit at first, so you still get the glorious first view of "space." Then the alien roars loudly through a speaker over by the animatronic, so you actually turn your head as he lights up.

Remember, people tend to look toward the outside of the turn, not the inside.
