  • The Disneyland Dream Suite Is..... TACKY?

So the first pictures and official media coverage of the Dream Suite is coming in. The OC Register has a big spread on it on their website, with pictures and such to follow in the morning edition. http://www.ocregister.com/news/dream...park-apartment
(ADMIN NOTE: and the full press coverage on MiceChat: http://www.micechat.com/forums/showt...ase-88847.html )
Granted, interior design is a subjective topic, and you'll never please everyone. But my first reaction at the photographs and descriptions? Much of the Dream Suite is, well, tacky!

It seems to me they have gone way overboard here, and instead of turning it back into a gracious and elegant apartment themed to old New Orleans, they've turned it into a garish and trashy exhibit at the convention center Home Show.

I'm reminded of a rather tasteless high-roller suite in a mid-range Las Vegas casino. LED light shows on the ceiling of the master bedroom? LED starfield and audio effects in the bathtub? Uh, that's kind of creepy. And it totally doesn't mesh with the old New Orleans vibe there. In fact, I can't think of any theme in Disneyland this meshes with.

Not all of the changes to the Dream Suite came out badly; I do like how they've spruced up the main balcony, and some of the individual pieces of furniture and color schemes are lovely.

But overall this new Dream Suite looks like it was a Honeymoon Suite designed by a drunken Victoria Gotti and her thug henchmen, rather than a family apartment decorated by the elegant Mrs. Disney and the sophisticated Dorothea Redmond. I think they went a bit too overboard on the Dream Suite.

It's VERY over-the-top. Which, while not a bad thing, is exactly what they were aiming for. Also, you need to remember that the theme of NoS doesn't really matter. I seriously doubt that if Walt would have lived there, it would have had the NoS theme.

I fail to see the tacky. It's a very nice suite, with some various themes around (attractions, castles), and the Victorian theme fits quite well. It's very immersing, and doesn't suffer from looking 'too Disney'.

True. I may have a different opinion if I saw it in person. Perhaps the pictures and descriptions aren't doing it justice.

And again, interior design is one of those things where you aren't going to please everyone all the time.

That said, I think I'm surprised at how much techno stuff they put in here. The LED lighting effects in every room, and the starfields in the bathroom, look like they belong in a trendy singles bar and not a 1880's themed New Orleans Square. The purple LED lights on the ceiling of the Master Bedroom seem especially gimmicky.

With all of the purple LED's glowing everywhere in the Dream Suite, I expect a Virgin America stewardess to come walking through with cocktails.

Big sections of the Dream Suite just doesn't look timeless and elegant to me. It looks trendy and a bit shlocky. So many gimmicks and modern techno effects were added that it just seems completely unrelated to the themed environment of New Orleans Square, much less the historical significance of being Walt Disney's private family apartment.

If you want to look at it from a completely unbiased eye, Disneyland itself is more than a bit tacky.

Is the Dream Suite over the top, yes, but it is being marketed as over the top. Remember if you get a chance to stay in it you are only there one night. Over the top works for a night.

The parlor is nice and the balcony is nice. I don't think that the bedroom is shot from a proper angle. If it was, I'm sure it would be much better looking. I'm not a fan of the stars on the ceiling, but they are understandable. I like the "D"s on the doors. In my opinion, it's not as bad as it could have been.

It's Disney, it's a dream prize, it's supposed to be over the top.

                  Looks fine to me.

I just get bitter when I read about the "special dreams" being given away to guests. Being a single bloke in his 20s, I'll never win a darn thing.

Yeah it's supposed to be over the top but it's still tacky. If I was offered to stay I would ask for an eye patch so I wouldn't have to look at all that tackiness at once.

Which part do you find tacky?

I mean the parlor is very true to the original design of the suite. I wouldn't think people would be complaining about it.

It's over the top, yes, but like other's said...that's what it's aiming for. And for people who have never been to Disneyland, it probably looks amazing.

Check out the video on the OC Register website. The reporter goes into the master bedroom and pushes the "Goodnight Kiss" button and the LED light show and audio effects start playing; laughing children, thunderstorms, disco lighting, starfields in the ceiling.

Perhaps I was just expecting them to go a more restrained and refined route with this?

Instead, it seems like they went to the Las Vegas Home Show with a blank check and got in a bidding war with the folks from Ceasars Palace.

For the most part I like the parlor, the pictures on the wall bug me However. it seems a bit cluttered but I'm sure it's just the angle of the picture. What strikes me as tacky is the bathroom in the master bed room. Less is more! It just seems to me they put all the flashy things they could think of in one spot. But I must say for one night I would enjoy the feeling of excessive luxury , Disney style.
