  • Trash-- Anyone else do this?

There's something about Disneyland which brings out so much joy. It's almost as if you're looking a surreal painting all day long. I find myself often drawn to keep this painting looking as new as it can be. So whenever I see trash on the ground I find myself picking it up, ergo, cleaning up after others. Anyone else feel the need to do this?

    Yep. Quite often in fact.

It's a little saddening at the same time isn't it?

Not really. Slobs are everywhere. Makes me happy to know I helped out a little.

Piles of trash are sad. Random litter is just annoying.

I suppose I'm disappointed by the lack a respect people have. It's one thing to be a slob, it's a whole other to be so discourteous to your host.

Whenever I spot something simple that needs doing, like a little litter that neds to be cleaned up, I'll often take care of it.

Even at work (not a CM) even if "it's not my job", If I can, and it's simple and fast, I'll do it. Or I'll bring a needed repair to someone's attention, so a $25 simple fix doesn't turn into a $10,000 disaster before they notice.

If I see someone drop litter deliberately, I might even go so far as to try mild corrective actions - "Excuse me, sir, I believe you dropped this."

Or a slightly stronger "You missed - the trash can's over there. And there's another one over there, oh and another one over there... Gee, you're always within range of a trash can around here - amazing, isn't it? You'd almost think they planned it that way..."

Bruce, that reminds me of a story of four people; Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybodythought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.

I pick up what I can, depends where I'm going, and how much time I have.

It's annoying to spiel "No eating or drinking" then we have to end up dealing with their mess anyways and it affects the attraction.

I pick up trash often, mostly in attraction queues.

Disneyland is my land, so I do my part to keep it clean. I did that when I was a CM too. Walk along the street, pick up some crumpled up guide map.

Lead by taking action. Hopefully someone will see and adopt the practice for themselves.

Picking up trash and throwing it away is my son's favorite thing to do. I think it's a toddler thing. He learned how to say trash before he learned how to say "mama" or "dadda." He worships the Waste Management truck and sits outside like a groupie on trash day. He does it at the disney parks, restaurants and at home. Our only problem is we have to constantly go thru our trash cans at home to make sure that he didn't throw anything away that wasn't supposed to go in the trash (i.e. keys, remote controls)

He does like picking up all the trash at DLR, that I wish he would just start collecting a paycheck for all the custodial work he does there. Those darn child labor laws...

Trash is annoying but the 2 things that get me in a rage are puposly sticking gum to things and carving your name in rails. That crap is inexcusable.

My Daughter is older and she still picks up trash. I guess I am kinda a germaphobe though. I worry about the gross stuff she might be touching. I am always looking for a restroom for her to wash after she has thrown away someone else's trash, especially when it has been on the ground. My husband tells me to chill. How long can those germs live there anyway? LOL
