  • What does one do at Innoventions? How much time does it take?

    Innoventions confuses me.

Its kinda a technology expo... right?

    Are there 'start times'?
Once in, does one just randomly walk around?
Are there any 'can't miss' things in there?
    How long does it take?

Maybe more like a technology "showcase"... I guess that's the same thing... I don't know...

The outer part of the building constantly turn clockwise so people can easily enter all the time in small groups, while the inner core and top floor stay stationary.

You can do whatever you want to, and take as much time as you want to.

Must see would probably include ASIMO, there's probably more, but I can't remember what right now.

The segway demo is pretty cool.

It's being retrofitted right now with Microsoft's House of the Future. I believe that's taking most of the bottom floor and some of the top floor.

Previously the trick was to jump off the spinny part as soon as Tom Morrow stopped talking and head upstairs as the downstairs contained only dated Disney computer games.

It's only the bottom floor, I think.

As for the top floor, there's a health exhibit, a smaller version of SSE's Project Tomorrow post show, the not to be missed ASIMO show, and the segway demo.

It's the part of the park that's exempt from the whole "Disneyland is not a museum" thing.

In my limited experience, once inside...

It takes 5 minutes to realize you've been had and this is Disneyland's infomercial.

It takes 15 minutes to get your vegetarian stepfather to give up trying to get some interactive nutritional calculation exhibit to work.

It takes another 20 minutes to find the exit, which is on the second floor, even though you entered on the first floor.

                So around 40 minutes .

Definitely can't miss - ASIMO (times can be found when you're in there)
Amount of time - depends on your age (at heart) or kids ages
Some new video games to try as well as old ones, including some with new technologies
Things are always changing - some related things, some more stations of the popular ones...
Should be much more interesting when the new House is finished (next month?)
VMK is there now, but said to be leaving from everywhere

You basically don't know what you might find each time, and so, how much time you might want to spend. They always keep doing something new and different, usually adding something with new technology, but saving the best for other attractions. You can get an idea by just walking through and then deciding how much time you want to spend after that.

Re: What does one do at Innoventions? How much time does it take?

I haven't seen the new Project Tomorrow, so I can't answer that.

                    I'd like to try Segways.

                    ASIMO is pretty neat.

And Stitch's Picture Phone is fun.

The new House of the Future is opening I think late May, so I'll also have to check that out.

I don't really bother with everything else. Just use Innoventions and HISTA while you have a Fastpass for another nearby attraction. At the moment while the House of the Future is under construction, entrance and exit is at the exit ramp.

It's one of those things that is better than dead space, but not as good as a pre-1998 Disney ride. And it's MUCH better than having a new (read: Pixar) ride being put inside there.

What I recommend doing at Innoventions is walk right past it on your way to the Autopia and then walk past it again on your way to Nemo. Both times, remember when it had something worth your time inside (Like America Sings or the Carousel of Progress) and then enjoy the rest of your day.

There's no longer a spinning first floor. You walk up a long ramp to the second floor now. Half of the space is blocked off, leaving many lame interactive displays. Most are health related. One mildly interesting one shows you how you'll age, based on your photo and questions regarding your lifestyle. One display is a scale that shows you your weight and BMI -- yep, a fancy scale. You can play various XBox (I think) games but the only vacant stations will be the ones that don't work.

You can ride a Segway up there but the line and the questionnaire last longer than the ride. You can see Asimo and people say it's amazing but I've never been.

Wait until something else goes in there.

Don't worry, it isn't you - it confuses most people.

Look at it as a Miniature "1964 World's Fair Tech Expo Pavillion".

And slide the date forward to about a year in the past from wherever you are, because they don't make a big effort to get and stay ahead of the curve. Moore's Law marches on (Computers double in speed and abilities roughly every 18 months) and they have last years' breakthroughs on display.

Certain things like the Honda Asimo Tech Show have a fixed schedule, roughly hourly. Pretty much everything else is walk up and do it.

The Segway test drive depends on line length, but there are only two CM's and two Segways (others are on recharge) so it takes a while.

You can spend 15 minutes or three hours in there, all depends on what grabs your fancy. I usually cruise through to see if there is anything new, and if not spend about twenty in there. Still have to go on a weekday for the Segway trial.

This summer they are supposed to have a new 'entry show' built and running at the downstairs entry as a Homage/Update to 'House Of The Future', and other new downstairs exhibits to go along with it. We shall see whether what they do warrants a "Must see" - or at least a "Must see once."
