  • [Question] What happend to Hunchback of Notre Dame Stage Show?

What happened to this show? I remember seeing it when I was a kid a long time ago. They still haven't used the theater they made for it since or have they? Anyone know what happened to it or why it was stopped?

I found some videos on Youtube, it's exactly as how I remember it, full of things to see everywhere. Enjoy (sorry for the bad quality).

Isn't that area where they do all the awards ceremonies for the all the middle school and high school music festivals?? Because I remember going my junior year and we did it back in that area...I think that stage is completely different and now it's just sort of a normal stage...I may be wrong though.

Re: What happend to Hunchback of Notre Dame Stage Show?

That show was in Festival Arena last a couple of years, and then a mini portion of that show was created for the Fantastyland Theater and made a part of the Animazement Show. For several years in th 1990's, DL did something considerably more, than just a pre-parade unit, for all the new major animated features. And the vast majority of these special offering for the newest animated features were only intended for a very limited time.

I sure the popularity of the Festival Arena show was the reason why Hunchback was given a siginificant portion of the Animazement Show. And that show ran several years, before "Snow White" became the next show. Now, of course, DL doesn't have a SINGLE theater style show at all, thanks to the Princess Fantasy Fair. Unfortunately, the old Fantasyland theater just doesn't attract or entertain the number of people it did previously.

The bigger question is "WHEN will Disneyland get it's live theater shows back in production again?" It offered a different type of entertainment, than anywhere else in DL, and it attracted a wider variety of audience than the Princess Fantasy Fair, which is not utilizing the space as well as it did before.

Back to Festival Arena, I was hoping that DL would place other entertainment in this area for all guests. I thought that they could stage a Tarzan show in this area surrounded by trees. (But PP and CH decided that it would be better to evict the Swiss Family Robinson and move Tarzan into that tree.) And since then, I have had a chance to enter Festival Arena several times, BUT unfortunately, it has been restricted to Private Parties and Disneyland Special Paid Events, picture opps, and on the 50th Anniversary, it was used as the main area for exclusive merchandise.

Well, there is a new stunt show in the works for that area based on the upcoming Lone Ranger film, its supposed to be very large scale, perhaps the scale of the Indy show at DSH.

I would like to see Disneyland expand back into the former Festival of Fools area. Between Big Thunder Ranch and the Festival of Fools arena, it looks like Disneyland has a decent amount of area to expand into.

They had a WDI barbeque event for the FNSV previews last year in that area.

Coast21, back in the 90s, The Entertainment department was constantly coming up with great new shows and parades that would run for only 1-2 years. They only stayed that long because there was always something else that would come in and replace it.

Though nothing replaced the Festival of Fools, it too run its course and faded away like all the other shows and parades.

The shows stopped when the quality of animated films dropped as well. Feature Animation made films that weren't successful and not easily transferrable into an entertainment production. They have still yet brought animation back to the glory days and thus is why I think the entertainment offerings have been pretty slim.

                Just my guess though.

i'd just like to point out ALADDIN, that you're forgetting "Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular". yes, its in DCA, but it is the kind of show you're describing =]

Home on the Range would have made a great Epic Stunt Spectacular in the Festival of Fools arena. Plus, it would have fit the theme of Frontierland.

Oh, I remember that show! Thanks for the video...you made me cry!

That was one of their best shows...wonderfully choreographed and staged. I remember just LOVING the confetti at the end. And Frollo just scares the bejesus out of me. Even as an adult, when I would see him in Fantasyland, I would just cringe and back away...he is just plain creepy!

THIS is very impressive and exciting information for Disneyland especially considering that there still isn't a working or final script at Walt Disney Pictures. In two years or so this could be a genuine possibility.

I'd like to see another phenomenal show back there as well...I am saddened it's gone. Other than the show not running anymore, I really don't know why it was stopped. *frowns*
