Anyone gone before? Camp out or order seats? Hotels? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Tournament of Roses Parade
I went to the 2006 Tournament of Roses parade when George Lucas was the Grand Marshall, and it was an amazing experience. I will say that having stadium seating right in front of where Bob and Stephanie do the commentary certainly made a world of a difference, since in previous years, I had just camped out along Colorado Blvd.
If you can get a good spot on the street on New Year's Eve, I would be all for it. Otherwise, I'd try and get tickets. for one of those grandstands.

Re: Tournament of Roses Parade
Wife and I had friends who lived in walking distance to the parade route, so we camped out two years in a row.
On one hand: it's free.
On other hand: it was near the end of the route and bands/cheerleaders were tired, and the more flamboyant floats were already broken.
On both hands: Regardless of which you choose (free or pay), you have to get up pretty early in the morning.
Better view: Channel 5 in HD. Rerun all day, so you don't miss anything.

Re: Tournament of Roses Parade
We went in 2004 when John Williams was the Grand Marshal, and we purchased grandstand seats. We were about halfway on the parade route. We had gone to DL for NYE, then got a few hours' sleep and then headed off to the parade. If we didn't have plans for the night before, we probably would have camped out. The grandstand seats are expensive, but at least the seat is guaranteed and you are on a higher level to see the floats....comes in handy for the massive ones.Imagination ~ dream a fantastic dream ~ use your imagination

Re: Tournament of Roses Parade
Something my family I do every year as a tradition is watch the parade on TV, and then the next day drive up to Pasadena to do the float viewing. Sure, you don't get the amazing bands and the full effect of the parade, but you what you DO get is more information on the floats, and you get to take your time looking at them up close and personal.
If you're lucky, toward the end of the very last day of the float viewing some of the float workers take off flowers and roses and give them away. I got one from Honda's ASIMO 50th float last year.
