I have checked into hotels at 17 and up. As long as you have a credit card and ID they usually allow it. But, I would call ahead and ask the hotel. Its been quite a few years since I was 17 and things may have changed.

Is it 18? My boyfriend and I want to go, but he'd only be 20 and I'd be 19.

18 is considered adult age in both California and Orlando. But, you have to be 21 to check into a hotel drunk.

good question. since you are an adult at age 18 in California, that would be my guess.

Call and ask them first - My off the cuff answer would be "at least 21" so the person signing the register is a statutory adult, and there isn't any question that they can be held legally responsible for the base charges and any extras on the bill. Things like Mini-bar, Room Service, phone, internet and/or Pay Per View charges and even potential damages to the room.

(Google up "Rock band destroys hotel room" - it happens. Often. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas only if you pay for what you use/destroy - otherwise it ends up in the Clark County Courthouse.)

If you have to send an Under-21 child or two ahead (or alone), you almost certainly can work it out with the hotel ahead of time. A signed letter to the hotel accepting said responsibility, emergency contact information (and possibly a Medical Release), and a deposit (open check or CC number) for the room charges.

You'd be better off calling the hotel and asking them. Policies may vary, and it's a good idea to confirm. Also ask what ID they will need (govt-issued, plus a valid credit card is usually necessary).
