  • [Question] Cafe Orleans Question

We have a reservation for Cafe Orleans for our upcoming March trip. We have never tried this restaurant. Is it acceptable if we go and just each order a soup and split the pomme frites (sp?) and get dessert? Because those are the main things we want to try but I wasn't sure if it is rude to the server to not order a main dish. Do people go just for appetizers and dessert? Is this ok?

    Thanks.

Sure. people do it all the time. The pomme frites are great. So is the Monte Christo sandwich which is big enough to split.

As mcow said, no problem. The Monte Cristo is good...the same one they serve in the Blue Bayou. Enjoy and be sure to tip your server :-)

French Onion soup & Pomme Frites are a heck of a good meal. Split away!

That is what we always do, plus the Monte Christo for dessert.

I am glad that French Onion soup and and Pommes Frites are an ok meal. I am tempted by the Monte Cristo but I have heard so much about the Mickey shaped beignets, that I thought we should try them.

I will make sure to tip our server We always try to be generous.

The pomme frites and the gumbo are my favourite things on the menu. I make sure to get a bowl of soup rather than a cup. We always order beignets too. All in all, I think we spend almost as much as someone who just orders a main dish and no dessert.

I am so excited to try all this yummy sounding stuff!

It isn't the price that had me worried because I know that things add up, I just wanted to make sure that it was ok that all the things we want to try are under the appetizer and dessert catagories.

The French Onion Soup is wonderful. And everyone is touting the Monte Cristo, but have not remarked that there are tow different versions on the menu. One with ham and one with a cheese blend. I do not like ham and have tried this version. It is delicious. It is four generous sandwich wedges served with a berry dipping sauce and grapes. If you make this your one meal of the day, it could be a great shared one with soup, frites and beignets shared.

Also, while I like Cafe Orleans new look and menu, be forewarned that many times they refuse to seat people indoors. This has happened to us a few times. Especially on one cold night they said that area was closed, and we were seated outside and were mighty chilly. Best wishes!

Amen to your plan! We do it all the time for an afternoon snack. Though I usually get the Gumbo (amazing!). As long as you are paying them, they aren't going to care what you order.

I've had Cafe Orleans before, and the pomme frites are the best. You have a plan that hit the nail in the head- get those and share the Monte Cristo.

Yummy, beignets are so good. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich their last summer and it is definitely big enough to split, I couldn't even finish mine. My friend and I wish we did just share one cuz she couldn't finish her's either.

We always share meals there (and everywhere else we go).

We usually get the pommes frittes, a monte cristo and that's usually it. They even split it for you and bring out extra fruit on each plate/berry sauce if you mention you're splitting it.

Also, try the Arnold Palmers there, they use a regular tea and pomegranate lemonade. So good.

Gumbo and the pommes frittes is a fantastic combo also.

Oh and don't forget you can get tastier beignets (IMO) at Ralph's Jazz Kitchen window.
