  • [Question] Fairfield Inn versus Candy Cane Inn

Hi all! My first thread, so I hope I am doing this right and posting it in the right area...

We are going to DLR next month and currently have reservations at the Fairfield Inn (2 queens city view) and the Candy Cane Inn (deluxe room).

We have stayed at neither. We normally stay at HoJo or the DLH, but are not this time.

Travel party is 2 adults, 2 kids 8 and 3.

    Specific questions:
    Which hotel offers bigger rooms?
    Better beds?
    Better pool?
    Closer distance?

    Other Opinions?

    Before anyone replies....

I just called the HoJo again (for the fifth or sixth time) and a room in Bldg. 2 opened up! This solved everything!

OK, but since you asked, for other posters...

Fairfield is a true HOTEL (though limited service), one large tower, but with outside doors. But the ONLY entrance is through the main Lobby, so better security. Larger rooms, a bit closer than CCI in walking distance.

Candy Cane Inn, a 2 story Motel, smaller rooms, but offers a free breakfast and a free shuttle to the park.

Not sure about the pool or bed questions.

And did you see the new HoJo discount offer for DLR Annual Passholders?

Re: Fairfield Inn versus Candy Cane Inn

I did. They gave me the Entertainment rate on 4 of the days and the AP rate on the other 3 days. I was very happy!

Thanks for the information on the Fairfield and Candy Cane. I have always wanted to stay at the Candy Cane, but was concerned at the small room size.

Correction: I did get the AP rate for 3 of 4 the 4 days. It is the same rate as the Entertainment Card.

the candy cane inn's room are not that noticeably small IMO

but i really did enjoy it!
the pool there was also on the smaller side too, but we never went it so it didn't matter to us

the beds were also pretty darn comfortable, sure no sheraton, but really it's almost as comfy as a regular house bed (not the temperpedic blablity blah)

I've stayed in both and I much prefer the Fairfield. if you're used to the HoJo, then the Candy Cane Inn's rooms will feel a bit small.

I have to disagree with GummiBears_Rock about the beds. I have back issues and I could not get a good night's rest at the Candy Cane. I love the beds at the Fairfield (and HoJo's for that matter).

Thanks! I am more about the comfort of a bed than I am about space, myself.

I will mentally note the Fairfield as a back-up hotel to the HoJo for next time.

                Never did Candy Cane
but we like Fairfield. yeah, no breakfast
but always clean and nice staff and that's what matters. Bed are a good size (and comfy)

Candy scares me because it's right next to that 7-Eleven (sketchy to me).
And right on the corner so no close to any entrance to the park.

No where in the definition of a "hotel" does inside or outside entry ways come in to play.

A hotel is a building or set of buildings where guests can pay to receive services such as lodging, meals and so on.

A hotel can be in one building or distributed across many.

A Motel is a portmanteau of the words "motor(vehicle)" and "hotel". It's a concept that was born of the highway system where proprietors would build a hotel that offers inexpensive lodging, within close proximity of a car park (normally at the door or your room) and at the side of a major highway or other highly trafficed route.

So A Motel is also a Hotel, but a specific kind where you virtually sleep with your car.

I've stayed at both. The Fairfield was tolerable, and actually had a good view of Disneyland. Candy Cane Inn was so bad that we left after one night.

Wow! I have never had a bad experience when I have stayed at the Candy Cane Inn. I have stayed there many a time and it has always been a pleasant experience. I must be one of the lucky ones. Even my ex-husband and his wife stayed there recently and they too had a good experience.

We stayed at the Fairfield last year, and enjoyed it. Our room was basic, but very nice. We had two queen beds, and they were very comfortable. Better than HoJo's old buildings for sure. Our room at the Fairfield was also very clean, and attended to during our stay.

yeah i really did not think candy cane was THAT bad, and we had the regular room, no deluxe. it may also be that we're not too picky if our beds are made or not.
